The Innocent Excitable PBEM: Get Set 2 Months Ahead!

If we have 8 players (we have 7 now), I think 4 AIs would be good (and 16 or 24 city-states, depending if you want to double the number of human civs or all civs).

I vote pitboss.

Since we have a fair amount of human players, we can easily do without any AI players.

On the one hand pitboss would allow us to have many players (and indeed no AI), while a PBEM with more than 6 is already somewhat a drag. And there's no reload cheating.

On the other hand, PBEM has a more laid back pace (and I'd extend that to mean a more friendly environment), no simultaneous turn exploits, and you don't lose a turn if you don't check everyday (here assuming a turn timer of at least 24h).

So yeah, vote on, people!
Edit: I prefer to keep my vote null.

Also possible, if we gather enough players of both minds, is to simply have a game of PBEM and another of Pitboss.
I know I'd be in for both :D

If it's possible to play on pitboss with simultaneous turns disabled and e-mail reminders, I think it's better than pbem.

In Civ 4, pitboss allows for a very long turn limit so it is essentially as laid back as PBEM.

You can also disable simultaneous turns and have automatic email reminders with pitboss.

Please PM or email me when this game is starting or you need an answer from me, as I'm not going to read the multiplayer sub-forum often.

Play by Email won't be in for release afaik. Therefore this thread is obsolete for now.

Edit: Forget that :P

Read the OP, the idea was to arrange a game before Civ5 comes out, and play it when the pbem (or pitboss) patch is available.

I am interested! I barely got into multiplayer on Civ 4, so I think this will be a nice "fresh start" and a chance to really get into MP.
Pitboss sounds good to me but I will play either way.
I'm GMT-4 and I'd like to play Arabia.
I'll PM my e-mail address.

Cool, MasterDinadan, I think you're in for great fun! Hey, you're my sparring partner for that little exploit. Shhh.

, it took a minuite to determine the "exploit" you are referring to.

Oh, and I just realized we are playing a huge map so 4 AIs sounds good.

I like the combination of raging barbarians on an archipelago map. Even though you likely won't be meeting competitor civs early as every will likely start by themselves, an early army will still be very important. I must say I am a little envious of the English player as this map as their UA will really come in handy.

Well, Songhai and especially Ottoman are still open :)

Nice, so 4 AIs and double the number of total civs in City States.
I'm hoping I get some City States near me at least, need to take advantage of that.

The nice thing about you playing this PBEM is you'll be able to let me know of any news of AoW on Steam

The entire AoW trilogy is now available on Steam:

http://store.steampowered.com/search/?term=age+of+wonders

(It was released several days ago, but I forgot to post about it here earlier; it's also on Impulse and GoG.)

Also, as 2K Greg posted here,

We're planning more improvements (such as the much-asked-for Hotseat and Pitboss) that will be coming in a later patch.

No word about PBEM, but if they implement sequential turns with Pitboss, it will be a good replacement of it, as discussed in this thread earlier.

Is this game still going to happen? The next patch should allow playing PBEM games using the hotseat option, so...
