I have never seen a k1 thread over here so I'm starting in myself. K1 is a kickboxing league where almost every martial arts fighter can compete in. At the moment the last tournament we've had was the K1 Final elimination in Osaka Japan. We there last fighters for the world championship have been selected.

The World Grand Prix final is the 19th of November in Tokyo. Eurosport is broadcasting it, and I think it's one of the best sport to watch out there.

For people who don't know what K1 is. It's kickboxing, the matches are set up as 3 rounds of 3 minutes. A match is decided by knock out, jury decision or when the jury isn't unanimous extra rounds untill they are. Knees are allowed, elbows are not.

The fighters in k1 are tough cookies. You got freaks of nature like Bob Sapp a dude thats 2 meters tall and 150 kilogram. Or even worse the Korean Choi who is 2.20 meters and 160 kilogram :D

But also beautifull techniqal fighters like last years champion Bonyasky. This is a diagram that shows where we are in the championship now:

And this is a little movie that kinda shows what it's all about:

So any other k1 fans out here? Whos gonna win the price this year?

I'd like to say that I was a fan, we've had some decent kickboxers out of Australia. The damage done to these boys shortens their careers a bit. I think they generally are tougher than boxers of any weight division.

I remember one big-billed event, the first attack of the fight and one guy shatters his leg and its all over.

Peter Graham is an Australian K1 fighter. fought some pretty good matches but I haven't seen him for a couple of years. I think he quit. Marc Hunt is a former champion from New Zealand :)

I think I know what that fight was your talking about, I have seen some clips of it. A guy doing a low kick, hitting the other square on the chin and breaking his leg in half. That was some awfull stuff to watch.

I think it's hard to compare them to boxers. In general boxers wouldn't stand a chance because they have no idea how to handle lowkicks or defend against kicks to the head.

Mike Tyson thought about fighting k1 matches a year ago. He challanged Bonyasky the current champion and Bonyasky agreed. I don't think Tyson will have a good chance, love to see it though :D
