the logic of choosing the types of food resources

It should be made possible to consume your enemies (cannibalism).
Now really ! The game is called Civilization, not Savagery. Shame on you.

One aspect of food resources that Civ4 ignores is spreading from the original source by human action, such as the introduction of the potato and tomato from the Americas into Europe. Why not have a Farmer unit who can be trained only in a city which has a food resource within its fat cross and who can then travel to another city which doesn't have that resource to plant his crop there. Also, in this latest version of Civ it isn't possible to transport food from one city to another, though the health benefits do transfer automatically. Bring back Caravans !
Sideline: what was Italian cuisine like before they had tomatos ? And what would the English do without chips ?

Why not? You may nuke the whole world, genocide all other civ's and than they say you acted like Nelson Mandela....:crazyeye: But you can't consume Victoria? Why not a new civic Cannabalism, which provide extra food for your citizens?

LOL!! Slain enemies are turned into soylent green? Or perhaps a "food" draft. LOL. If you lack food, then you may draft up to five Pop per turn.

Cacao! If you need another jungle resource that would be a good one. Everybody loves them some chocolate.

It would be an EXCELLENT resource in a Earth mod. I'm sure someone has already thought of it in fact. South America doesn't have many unique resources, but that is a big one.

What is a food engineer (i.e., how do you become one? what do you do all day? have you always dreamed of being one??)?

btw, i think the Potato(e) ;) is a great addition to the game ~ would really make a lot of sense vis a vis "You have shown the leadership abilities of: Dan Quayle" ~ ever read the article/essay in 'What If 2' i believe re: how the world would be drastically different w/o the HUGE calories the potato gave to the human animal. Highly recommended.

anyway, as Dan Quayle said: Verbosity leads to unclear, inarticulate things.
( :hatsoff: to Frankcor)

although I AM interested in the food engineer profession . . .

Thank for your question. I am a trainee in a sunflower oil producing company, my task will be to lead a plant part (one step before factory director), but a food engineer also can research methods or products or can work in a supermaket as a quality controller.

I decided to work in food industry when I was 13, so it was my dream. In Hungary you can go to technical school instead of high school where I could study food industry what I continued at university.

About verbosity: in my opinion verbosity means that you speak too much about one thing. Speaking about several things that maybe not so important (but interesting) is not verbosity.

...Hello boss. What I'm doing? Nothing at all. (Gluc! Thud.)

What is true in this thread?

Anyway, you have weird notes... cannibalism, slavery...

In one mod I see that slave was a happiness resource in jungles.

Cacao could be a commerce resource, maybe giving you +1 health having grocery. It's interesting that this is native in South America but it planted mainly in Africa.

Chocolate has a unique effect being a neurotransmitter, that's why girls eat much chocolate when they have any problem.

Do you make food out of nothing?

Potatoes, salt, beer, burgers (cows)... I've all those in one of the mods... and they're really cool - especially salt mines (produce 3 extra coin I believe). But nothing would satisfy more than a McDonalds resource. Its not like any other food resource, because its not really food - but it tastes so good!

Seriously though, if I were to put a new food resource in the game, I'd put in Citrus fruit (that would cover things like Oranges, Lemons, Grapefruit, etc etc). I think it would be a good "catch all" resource for two reasons. One, citrus fruits are nutritionally good for you - and two, historically sailors used to stock up the stuff during 1600s, 1700s and 1800s to fend of scurvy.

Why citrus fruit? how spontane. And don't call us CP!

Spontane? Citrus Fruit is a catch-all term. There are many different types of Citrus Fruit (such as Lemons, Limes, Grapefruit, etc). So, rather than have each one as a separate resource, I figured to just put it under one category/name.

BTW, there's nothing "spontane" about it - if I get your meaning. I've already seen lemons as a resource in one mod. I merely mentioned it in this thread to be considered for a future version of the game (maybe - heh!).

CP (that's stands for Col. Puddinhead - not calling you anything)

Citrus fruits are tropical fruits. Banana is a tropical fruit as well. So we have two variations: make a big category of tropical fruits or separate them to two categories, but both of them should be a grocery resourrce.

Ok... fair enough. I only mentioned it, because historically the British used to stock lemons and limes on their ships to fend off scurvy (lack of vitamin C) - which is why Brits are sometimes referred to as "Limeys".

I completely agree with you on the Grocery store comment. I would go so far as to say all food resources should be grocery store resources (with the possible exception of Deer - although someone will undoubtedly say they saw venison at the meat counter). Its rather amazing what you find at the grocery store these days.
