The map editor of Civ3 is a very useful prog. But how should be the Civ4 editor?
In the curent editor(c3c)there are mising many usefull comands :(
What comands should be added in the Civ4 editor?

Add the ability to create new civilizations, units, resources, improvements, etc Building a map is great, but I'd like to create a utopian society in my likelness and imagination.

I think there are probably things you can do with the existing editor http://forums.civfanatics.com/forumdisplay.php?f=46
but I totally agree for a need of editor overhaul
I hope that more experienced modders give their views here because IMHO this topic is really big.....

Have you tried the editor? Every one of these things is in it. All the stuff you see in Civ was created using it (and off the shelf commercial art tools).

Firaxis won't be giving away the art tools as they use commercial tools.

I think the Editor needs a 200% overhaul.
E.g. it should be possible to create everything (new units, new civs...) entirely within the editor, without messing around with files, if one so chooses (to change the look you could bring up a window like Paint to make basic changes). Of course the possibility of messing around with files to make the ultimate look, like some people are already doing, should remain.

An we need a screen-by-screen flag-by-flag help

Also it would help greatly if you could save things in one file and make them easy to swap among users and available in the epic game. e.g. someone creates a nifty civ, all what you need should be in that file. someone else creates a nifty units...
All this is already possible, but it is too messy for the average [civ3] user. Or at least it is too messy for me.

Even Firaxis doesn't have that tool. They use commercial art programs because it is way cheaper than building that kind of tool.

I do, however, agree that they should make the files (with exception of art and sound files) accessible from within the editor and have error checking built in.

The problem is that making this tool slick enough that an average player can use it, is more work than implementing Civ4 in the first place with crude tools that only the programmers uinderstand.

One word: Triggers. If they're that worried about losing money, they should just include it in a later XP; I don't care so long as it's included at all.

New Comand:Map generator with cities and units
New Comand:Turn off-on Razing
New Comand:Turn off-on Polution

Triggers (and the underlying event system) is the kind of option that is hard to put in once your engine is developed. It should be put in from the beginning to be relatively easy to do.

This is the one thing that I'd love to see added to Civ4. The lack of a good event system is what prevents scenarios form progressing beyond the current level.

What I asked for before still applies. I'd like to set up any situation that can occur "naturally" in the game using the editor.

Awwwwwwww
I did not know that.
That means we will probably never have it.

Exactly.

Spam line to fulfill character requirement. :bounce:

It's great for those that are good with more than basic computer knowledge. To those that are helpless to create on the editor, it sucks big time. I would like to see a large selection file for units, terrian types and styles and resources plus. All kinds, and all types. I'd like to be able to incorporate them in the game your building with out all that trouble of do this and doing that. Once they come out with this kind of editor then I am sure playing CIV 20 hours a week as a norm would jump to about 40. I love this game people. It has so much yet not quite there. But as far as games go, it is almost so perfect it's not even funny.
I really believe that if they create that editor to be user friendly it will come very close to out sell every game on the market today.

I think that a help would go a looooooooooooooooong way to make it accessible to all. This forum is full of great tutorials, but you have to go to fish for information (and not everybody knows about this forum).

IMO a big plus is to have a toggle that allow you to make mods that are playable even without anymations

One other suggestion is to make Civilopedia entries editabble in the editor rather than having to fish through file folders to find the .txt file and edit it. (Same goes for diplomacy). I know this can't be too difficult, as it was done SMAX's editor (the original SMAC had no editor).

I actually would go further than that and suggest that when you change somenthing in the Editor the Civilopedia entry is automatically modified

And use a standard format for the 'pedia like HTML that is easy to format.
