Hello folks,

I am running my first marathon (in Calgary) on July 9th. I've been seriously runnning for over a year, and been on the 16 week pre-marathon mega-training schedule. Right now I run about 70km a week.

So have any of you ever run a marathon? Running one in the next few months? Got any good running stories/advice?

And by all means, any non-marathoning runners are free to post. Let's hear it!

I'd like to run marathons actually. I got into running after I ran my neighborhood 5 mile race during our 4th of july festivities. My roomate in college was a Cross Country recruit, so we'd go training together. I'm in nowhere near marathon shape...but we did run parts of the Marine Corp. Marathon in the fall, and I've done a few smaller races here in DC.

Good luck!

dude, max respect, i could never run a marathon in the shape i'm in. the inhalation of THC has prevented me from becoming physically apt. but uni is almost over, and so will my smoking days be over.

Good luck to ya dude!

Marathon, you crazy? ;)

I could handle half the distance in my heyday, but I'm not even close to a quarter these days.

Max respect as Senhor said.

:)

um my sis was a Division 1 distance runner and is now going to do a marathon. She has yet to decide whether she will "run it" (just running it relaxed) or "race it" (try and get top ten in the women's side or something).

As for me I can't run worth a damn.

You guys are tremendous motivational boosters. ;)

But I gotta say, the training is incredibly draining, especially during exam season. This may be my first and last marathon. I'd probably going to convert to 10K racing afterwards, in order to lesson the amount of time needed to train.

Let's face it, Marathons just aren't.... sexy.

But endurance running was always something I was naturally gifted at. Lately I have cut down a lot on any sort of cardio though, because I have such a high metabolism that I burn calories in my sleep and I've wanted at the same time to put on size through diet and weightlifting. I've gotten to the point now though where I need to do cardio to cut down the fat just a little bit, so I will probably do some local marathon this summer. I'm lucky enough to have been talking to a nutritionist who's going to run this summer in one, so I might have a training partner.

Its kind of marathon related, was just wondering if anyone ran the London marathon on sunday? how'd it go?

I've run the London marathon - and severl half marathons. My Pb time was 89 mins for the York half marathon.

Wow, every respect for you to run a marathon, man. My friend actually participated at the Vienna city marathon 2003 with the bad luck that it was on the first hot day (it is usually mid may) with 28°C and sunshine, while at his test 3 weeks before it was snowing! We watched him running while consuming icecream and having a good day. Instead of his anticipated 3:30 he was half an hour slower. He quit serious running after that and abstained from consuming noodles for half a year. He really ate tons of them during training (me also as I joined him as trainingpartner twice a week).

We run at the relay competition this year (as we did in 2004 and 2005). It is really funny to be the 3rd or 4th and last runner and to overtake all the marathon runners :D , although sometimes they don´t leave the left side of the track for the fast runners.

Good luck fro your competition and don´t get too obsessed with beating your predicted time! My competition is on next sunday, 7th of may. If you can get a broadcast on TV, our team wears flourescing green shirts.

No beer tastes better than the first one after you finish this day, that should be motivation enough to make it into finish!
