I am 100% agaisnt non-coded rules. no way to enforce it.

I don't really have an opinion about which is better. I've never used Pitboss, so I don't know if it's better than PBEM or not. And I've never played simultaneous, so I dunno how that works.

To simplify, for people who aren't familiar with the format, Simultaneous Turns means that at any point during the Turn Period (e.g. 48 hours), a team may connect to game and execute moves. Micromanage their cities, move the units, propose trades in the diplomacy screen, establish research paths, &c. At the end of the turn period - in this case 48 hours - the pitboss host server's clock will chime 'Midnight' and all of the teams' turn will be forced to end, if they have not yet clicked 'Enter' to end the turn manually. So if a team has not connected to the server and executed moves, then their units won't go anywhere; build queues will be commandeered by the game's AI engine, and no diplomatic offers will be accepted.

In both pitboss formats, units on "automate" or "goto" will still move if you miss your turn.

The AI never gives orders unless the host kicks the human team out of the game.

And diplomatic offers are still there, they just stack up in the inbox until you log in.

Thanks for the clarifications, Dave.
And just to confirm - you're willing to host a PitBoss game, if that's what is decided on?

And to add to what Peter says, Simultaneous turns also allows the theoretical possibility that Team A could play their turn with 1 hour left to go - then log back in right away and play the next turn - giving them effectively double-movement before any other team could respond.
This is especially problematic in a wartime situation.
Only way to deal with it is the creation of rules - and hoping no one says "oh I didn't realize that Team X hadn't played their turn yet!" - and then the arguments start about how to fix it or if it should be fixed etc.
But that's just my take :mischief:

This problem goes away with Sequential turns... but at the expense of some speed. (if you even think that's a bad thing- which I personally don't. As long as no team has the save more than 24 hours, that'll be plenty fast, imo)

Is it possible to switch mid-game from Simultaneous to Sequential? :dunno:

@Dave - Thanks for the clarity. But I thought the AI took over build sequences if the human player didn't establish a queue :confused:

I know we were going to leave this poll open till the 15th - but since there's been no activity since the 1st - maybe we should move up the deadline to this Friday (the 10th) - and get that second "top-2" poll going.

Let's keep this thing moving! :whipped:

I, too, would prefer sequential pitboss, if simultanous pitboss in any form is out of the picture.

First, my thanks to classic hero for his email.
I never played sequential pitboss, but I guess it's better than pbem.
Just two questions, please:
If the assorted time ended, is it the turn of the player automatically ended? If yes, good;
if not,less good.
Will there be private fora for each team? I hope yes.
Best regards,

well - if you move those 3 votes into the Sequential Pitboss column - that does look like a super-majority. (11 votes vs. 5 for the second place vote-getter, PBEM).

Would any of the PBEM people like to voice their opinion on forgoing the second "Top-2" poll, and just agreeing that the Civ4 BtS MTDG will be played as a Sequential Pitboss game?

@fed1943 - yes to both!
In Sequential PitBoss if your time runs out, then your turn ends and becomes available for the next team to play. :thumbsup:
And Private Forums are a key feature of the MTDGs.

...whichever team i end up on..if i get to play will move the save quickly no mater hwat format....

...again only i end up beign turn player as i am pretty new to this game :P

This from the player with over 1000 points score and several techs lead in the pitboss I'm hosting. :rolleyes:

By general consensus- I believe this poll is now CLOSED.

Winner: Sequential Turns PitBoss.
