I've been noticing complaints about the price of DLC's everywhere.
There is a "civ V rants thread" specifically for this.
But if that doesn't satisfy you, here is a thread just for it.
Now please let people discuss the topic idea in peace.

Money for DLC is poison. $$$ for all DLC is already almost 50$. It's Activision standarts.
I hate how almost 90% of gaming community are submissive sissies who think that this is the future of gaming and we should live with it.
I have nothing against true expansion packs. They are great. There are at least 2 developers who make great DLC for free - Valve and CD project.
But for god's sake - don't support greedy publishers/developers! They just released wonders for money. Next step - patches for money. This will reduce modding to zero (BF3 will have no mod tools and Civ5 with it's "SDK") so greedy publishers can sell their ovepriced crap.

There's a rant thread, to avoid having 10-12 threads on different rants. We don't need one just to complain about DLC.

Although I do agree with you, apparently people also need a DLC-rant thread, because I see complaining about the DLC in a topic about 'when the DLC is released', I see complaining in a topic 'what is the best scenario', I see complaining in a topic about 'Korea and the Wonders DLC'.
And everyone has a right to complain, but please do it in the rants-thread.
Maybe the haven't seen the rants-thread yet? Or they think it's only about Civ 5? So maybe a DLC-rant-thread will help? I dunno :dunno:

No! My dislike of DLC shall not be bottled away in this thread so that my voice will not be heard. I think the DLC lovers should all go into their own tread and talk about how they like spending over $90 on a bunch of useless junk that should be sold for only around $20!

We do actually, because those of us who want to discuss the actual content coming out don't have a thread as they all turn into this discussion.

I would love to talk about the new Civ and scenarios... but alas we cannot. We have to bicker about a few dollars instead. :crazyeye:

Yeah ! lets turn this thread into a " We love CiV DLC !!! " thread... :joke:

but why people complain over DLC price is beyond me, unless it is blatantly obvious they are ripping you off *cough* CoD DLC *cough* then their is every reason to, but over a few Pounds, Euros, Dollars, Yen or whatever, then not so much.

One big complaint: I'm automatically forced to end turn when I get through the task queue. This is extremely annoying and has already cost me a few workers/units in my current game.

Its really sad when plp cant disagree. These offical rant threads are a huge mistake.

Civfanatics is a forum to discuss civilization games and not just to applaud firafix.

Me too, dont know why they change that.

that...that's what all of the dlc threads are.
They should all be thrown in one hole to make way for the people who don't applaud high prices and rip offs.
Are you talking about Civ 5 DLC or DLC in general ? because Civ 5 DLC is only £3.00.
Those quickly add up to well over twice the price of an expansion that should include all of those things and more..

Yeah ! lets turn this thread into a " We love CiV DLC !!! " thread... :joke:
I don't think it is a joke. The fanboys need a temple too.

Civ V DLC is not a blatant rip off? This is news to me.

People live in this sheltered world where the price of things never, ever increase.

Next time I put gas in my car I'm going to go to the cashier and yell and say that 4 years ago I paid much less. :mischief:

I think DLC is more superior then an expansion pack in every way.

DLC:
- You get a little content periodically keeping the interest in the game up.
- I can pick the ones I like and leave the ones i don't
- It's a small cost to support your favourite game and fuel more content.

Expansion Pack:
- You get everything at once reducing the interest
- You have to get everything
- You have to wait a lot longer
- You will miss content because it's to small to be released in an expansion pack but big enough to be released as an DLC.

So keep em coming more stuff for civ 5 can't be bad.

Oh yes, the constantly fluctuating gas prices are definitely comparable to the overly high prices of DLC! If only video games were powered by DLC too. Wait, with the new trend continues soon they will be (civ world and other facepsace games).

In all seriousness: The DLC of Civilization V have recently amounted up to around $49, if you do the math. What is funny is that Civ V itself cost about the same price.

DLC isn't my favorite thing (I'd rather have expansions) but it's the way of the future. There will still be some expansions for games, but there's going to be more and more DLC for games because it's more profitable, like it or not. At least DLC has brought continued support for the game. The way I see it, if DLC does well, there might be hope for an expansion, as well as continued support for the game. If it doesn't do well, Firaxis, like many companies, will probably move onto the next game, whether it's Civ VI (probably not), more CivWorld stuff, CivRev II, whatever. Games have typically gone to $60 (even PC games), DLC is the norm, etc. Things change, and DLC is part of it.

Can you explain to me how DLC is more cost-effective?
DLC:
- You get a little content periodically keeping the interest in the game up.
If it takes the constant release of DLC to keep player interested than it sounds like you have yourself a pretty bad game. A game should be perfect and refined before release, not incomplete.
-
I can pick the ones I like and leave the ones i don't
If people actually wanted flexibility in the gaming world then why on earth have expansions sold so well in the past? And why do people shop at Cost Co?
- It's a small cost to support your favourite game and fuel more content.
The small cost does not fuel more content. The sales of the original release are what fuels it. DLC simply fuels the fat wallets of 2k stock holders.

- You get everything at once reducing the interest
Same goes for your first point.
- You have to get everything
Again, no one cares about flexibility in the gaming world. It's not a supermarket. In this industry consumers feels left out when they don't have stuff and that is the precise reason DLC is doing do well. Also, video game consumers like getting as much as possible, for as little as possible.
- You have to wait a lot longer
You should seriously have enough interest in the game as it is to not have to tap your feet impatiently waiting for the next expansion.
- You will miss content because it's to small to be released in an expansion pack but big enough to be released as an DLC.
Expansions typically cover a wide range of content, big or small. DLC is what can only include a few small things at a time.
