The only way to get a big score?

forum admin? i'm running for CFC diplo victory according to some folks :crazyeye: *giggle*. i'd never get it, i run up countless "-3 You have gone off-topic in our thread!" modifiers.

+3: Giggles!
+2 You have gone offtopic in our thread!
+7 You're awesome

-2 You denied helping Hatshepshut
-1 You're kinda hyperactive :run:

For an amazing +9 total score.

:)

54K is nothing to sneeze at. I've never got near to 100K. I think my highest ever is about 77K.

Cheers.

Well, that makes me feel a little better. Thanks!

I just played a Noble game with a standard size pangea map with Julius. I ended up getting into a 3 way war with Ramses, Khmer, and Hannibal. That considerably slowed me down so I didn't finish until after 1900's era. 15k score. (Boo)

Still, I think I planned out that war time poorly, and I'm amazed that I didn't get rolled over fighting a three front war like that. (Like a triangle of badness)

I think I might give Boudica a try next and go for all out war as aggressive as possible. :hammer:

I'm going for my all time high score in my current 17 civ Huge Terra game. I turned off domination, and am taking over Civs one by one. I think I'll win by conquest at some point. It's about 1450 and I've now got 7 vassals, with a score of 75K if I was to win now. I hope to push that up as I take over the other 9 Civs.

Cheers.

Well, sad to say that I finished the game and the score was down to only just 70K. Even though I was warring practically all the time, I could just not keep it really high. Conquest in 1566. I was researching Mass Media after my last 3 techs of Floght, Rocketry, and Radio.

Instead of Huge/Marathon/Terra, I'm now trying out Standard/Normal/Fractal.

Cheers.

Yeah, I had the same stuff, usual score ~40k, personal best 49k. Then about two weeks ago I started Monarch Large Fractal game with Carthage, and started coastal, with seafood, and two plainhill gold mines next to river. Later on I've received some insane random events, like +2:hammers: to mine, +2:gold: to iron mine (so it's +3:gold: with financial), extra commerce on seafood...
With that research I teched to Numidian Mercenaries, took out Charlemagne, and, in about 1830 I've won by Domination first time in my life. Whopping 124k points. Land and population is power. And score as well...

That's a bit shame, don't You think? That the only way to get a big score is to wipe out other nations and overgrow our planet like germs... Yeah, of course, one can be 1% to Domination and go for cultural or Space Race, but that doesn;t mean anything.

It's possible to get good scores with other victories, but yes, it tends to lean toward domination/conquest.

I think the programmers are still trying to find the right formula to use for calculating score. One tactic I used with Civ and Civ II (and I'm sure others used this as well) was to build my spaceship, but I'd have such a large lead that I could wait as long as I wanted to launch it, and maximize my score.

Civ IV scoring prevents you from doing this, but then it ended up favoring the forms of victory that are easier to achieve early in the game.

Ideally, the next scoring system will adjust for the type of victory, so that it doesn't have to be domination/conquest that gets a high score, but also works it so that if you "milk the clock," you are penalized in your score.
