The overabundance of spammy polls in OT

Indeed - and although I've put a lot of that sort of stuff on the board in my time, I usually only do one at a time :D

The best thing to do is post something worth reading, if it seems stupid, don't bother.

That's a good point. A poll is a poll, but a bunch of silly ones from the same person at the same time is probably something mods look at too.

What exactally is the definition of Spam? It can't be very precise since you talk of "spammy" and spamminess".

And another thing, isn't the whole purpose of Off Topic for people to discuss whatever random nonsense they want. Personally I'd rather read about some silliness or respond to a poll than hear people talk about the killing in Palestine or try to explain how communism makes sense

I like those polls, and I like the laid back atmosphere of CivFanatics, why ban people for silly polls? Why fret about postcount? Who cares? Live life, relax, enjoy! :goodjob:

Spammyness is really when people start posting too many short posts. So you could have the occasional silly poll but it becomes spam when there are too many and people start complaining.

Well Lefty, the rules say no spamming, and we all agree the polls are spam, so they fall under our interpretation of spam, then I see no problem closing them.

After a short (but welcome!) break, it appears that the polls are back.

We now have polls on whether you like woman who shave their legs, or whether you like them with long hair or short. Those, and the one on how you brush your teeth.

Do we really need those?

These are due to somebody other than Rodgers. We all know Rodgers is dead somewhere, probably not far from his home... Poor bastard...

I thought I made it clear that some polls would be alright, as long as it doesn't go overboard.

If the poll is totally stupid, you can count on Lefty and I dealing with it.

Ah, the noble art of walking along the fine line of nearly totally stupid and totally stupid :)

When I open a poll all I care about it is that it gains a flood of responses...if a poll is popular then it buys its survival due to mob rule. Well that has been my experience of these things :p

Well, I have to say the polls were a lovely homecoming treat for me - but then I do love them so :)

Howabout a thread - "The overabundance of boring UN/Iraq threads in OT"? :p

Howabout a thread - "The overabundance of boring UN/Iraq threads in OT"?

We already have that one, altough it's official name is "here we go - iraq to accept UN inspectors..."

Hey "Are you evil?" sounds good and I don't think it's worthless I'm curious to know how many members here are baddies:)perhaps I should visit this one day

And "Favorite pointless poll?" is also a good one because I think it's the only one where you can vote for the same poll you’re posting. So it's kind of a pioneer poll ;)
