Ok guys I have somethin to say since I'm the one who initiated the no cd patch discution...

So the thing is that Apple Disc Copy make an image of something you want and make the computer beleave it's actually a disc inserted in your drive...

So you create an image of a disc and double-click it and your computer think the cd is in the drive...

Now I have something even more interesting for you... Civ3 is very badly copy protected. So badly that you don't actually need a real image of the cd to pass by the protection. The only thing that is needed is that the image actually have the same name that your original cd. That's to cool...

The fact is that the complete install need nothing from the cd to play the game correctly. So try and give a feedback...

By the way the simpleast way to create your image is to create a new empty folder with the needed name and then drag it to your disc copy window.

Trying is the first step toward failure.

Been running it that way for months. My original CD developed a crack from the center hole for no apparent reason and I didn't miss a beat while I sent it back for a replacement since I'd done a full install. It's a lot easier than messing with the CD anyway. It's in my Favorites folder in the Dock, right next to the Civ III alias. :D

BTW, I think most forum members will think a thread with this subject is about something else entirely - as in 1.21. ;)

I tried, but I keep getting 'error - copyright protection.' I'll try doing it like you mention and let ya know.

Uh-oh! I woke this morning and started a game but was prompted to insert the cd. After searching my desktop, I noticed the Cvivilization III icon for the image was missing. I still have a Civilization III folder w/ Civilization III.img in it but it doesn't work. Is it possible it automatically trashed?

If you haven't saved the dmg file somewhere, it goes away. See my post above for my solution.

Just open it before you start and it will magically appear on your desktop, just like you inserted the CD. ;)

Hi,
Any time you shut down or re-start your computer, you lose the dmg file. You have to re-open the img file. Not a big deal, but I understand your sudden fright. :-)

Good gaming!
