Well, try as I might, I cannot install the patch, meaning patch 3.19. I think that I finally understand why.
The reason dates back to when I first installed Vanilla Civ4. I had run out of space on my drive C: along time ago, so I had gotten an external drive. So when I installed Civ4 vanilla, I put it on the external drive, under a folder marked CIV4, not suspecting that apparently I'm supposed to put it in a folder called Firaxis Games. I only learned this when two mods that had auto-installers installed themselves in a folder called Faraxis games. So this is what I think happens when I try to install the patch: The Computer tries to install Beyond the Sword in a folder called Firaxis games, which currently does not have Beyond the Sword or vanilla in it. So, two questions.

Am I right?
and
How do I fix it?

How are you trying to install the patch? Are you using the in-game update? If so that will not work, you have to download the patch and run the patch outside the game. If you are using Vista or W7 you will also have to right click on the patch and select run as administrator to get it to install properly. Many people do have Civ installed in another place than the default so it should work.

No, no, no, and no. I am installing, out of game, on XP, as an admin. Ok, WHAT IS GOING ON?

UPDATE:

Just to see if it worked, I downloaded it from here again and installed it. Everything went as it did last time I tried it. The installer seemed to be installing BTS all over again, and crashed when I clisked the "Install" button. What would really help is if someone just put the files after patching online. A am a modder and I would know what to do with them.

PLEASE!!

Why is everyone ignoring me? I know I'm not the only one with this problem, someone else told me that they had it too. Please help, somebody!

What do you mean?

for question 1: no you are not right. The bts installer scans the registry for the civ4 install folder and then installs Bts as a subfolder there - the patch installer then does the same for the bts install folder. It does not really matter how you call it - automatic mod installers may or may not just use the standard structure.
However external drives have been known to cause all sorts of troubles - when you originally installed it: did you install it to the external drive or move it after installation?
when you installed bts was there any problem?

Please don't shout - people here are helping in their free time - if you want to shout please shout at people that get paid for this ;)

Hmmm... I can't quite remember, but I think that everything went smoothly. I'll edit and confirm that as soon as I can.

I'm pretty sure that I first installed it on the external drive.

I have a wacky idea. I could be totally wrong, but is it possible that a registry organizer (Like Regcure) could have deleted data that would tell the patch installer where to install the patch?

So I could solve the problem by uninstalling and reinstalling civ?

But it would definitely be easier for someone to just send me the code. I'd know what to do whit it.

Would someone please help me?

I will.

After uninstalling civ, I found out that my Vanilla Install disk was broken, so I bought a used copy of Civ 4 complete collection. I installed, everything went fine, and then, when I tried to install the patch, something happened wrong. An error message popped up after the installer configured itsself telling me that I had not installed Civ 4 right and it could not install the patch. Now what?

If you had read the previous posts, you would know that I am trying to install 3.19.

this really applies for rudeness as well - no one here is getting paid for tech supporting the game - if you want someone to shout at, ask Take2 for Tech Support, but preferably just cut the rudeness.

As for the problem: what version of Complete is this (european or us version)?
