What's the problem? My point was that the Adolf honored in the naming would have no connection to Nazi Germany, having immigrated to America long before.

How about of New Yorker named their child Osama Bin Curran? You do not think that would have some level of controvesy surrounding it and that people might be taken aback somewhat by having to keep saying that name AND that child might be the target of derision and the focal point of retributive actions?

I said nothing of the sort. I doubt there will be an American baby named Osama for a generation at least, and I have heard of some Muslim Americans changing their name from Osama. But if I meet a young Osama 60 years from now, I may not hold it against him.

What I emboldend in your quote is the underpinnings of my previous point. Anyone naming a child Adolf today, even as an homage to a deceased jewsih gandfather, would certainly realize this connection. Thus, if they were to move forward with this, it would be a very questionable thing to do and the people around them, friends, family, rabbi, would all counsel against it.

Upon their insistance of the name, it would cause tremendous conflict in that family.


NOW, if the mere name of Adolf would elicit such reaction, imagine a game in which one could become Hitler and then successfully rule the world?


Once people see the ineveitable conclusion of their actions and proceed anyway despite the negative outcome, that is called callous disregard. These people need be treated as if they were lepers in the 19th century. Do what the Amish do to undesirables. Excommunication.

Has anyone asked Firaxis why Hitler isn't in the game? That would end this debate once and for all, wouldn't it, if we got their official stance. I'm pretty sure I know what they would say and why, but at least then this would be over.

I don't particularly agree with the rest of your post but I'm too tired to argue it. You didn't respond (nor were you obligated to) to some stuff I said, so I don't feel bad for cutting and running. Besides I can't argue with a man who makes Bob Dylan references, and the Rainbow Knights picture is the funniest thing I've seen in hours. But I don't know why you think Hitler wanted to play banjo. He wanted to be an artist so he could draw dead people. If only he hadn't sucked at it.

Lets start a new poll. I believe genocide should be a civic, maybe even a religious civic since the game doesn't include race as a variable. When the enemy's religion spreads to my civ I want to be able to switch to genocide and eradicate all of the believers in it. Or when you conquer an enemy city and take it over, you can switch to genocide to kill off their citizens and get rid of their culture faster and make it your own. That would be fun. Assimilation takes too damn long.

While we are at it, racism would be a good civic too. I am not sure what the benefit is yet, but there is clearly a demand by the people to be able to act out on their racist, genocidal tendencies in a socially acceptable way, like a video game perhaps.
