I think it is a little overboard to ban/boycott the game if he was put in but people are petty.

It's a simple matter of free choice. If I don't want to play a game featuring Hitler, I don't have to apologize for it.

Hitler doesn't deserve to be leader of the Germans in this game. Never mind what he did to the rest of the world, or even to ethnical minorities within Germany. You can hate him all you want for those actions, but they are not what makes him unsuitable for this role. The fact is that he led Germany to total defeat and unconditional surrender. He took an industrial nation that was the world leader in science and technology and led it to destruction.

Even Napoleon didn't mess up that badly in the end, and he will always be remembered by the French with pride because, after all (for lack of a better term), he made them look cool.

If Adolf Hitler should be a part of the game cannot just be determined by a democratic decision - especially considering the complete lack of consensus on the subject. Even though I support the decision of including Adolf Hitler as a leader, I would still, without doubt, play the game if he was not included. The issue is that if he was included there is a risk that some people will not play the game because they were offended or that Firaxis would have to deal with organizations that seek to put Sid Meier’s Civilization off the market. Also Firaxis may be so ideal that they do not wish to offend people if it can be avoided.
Adolf Hitler is simply not worth the risk.

You can bet there would be modders who did. There are already neo-Nazi games out there about running a concentration camp and getting scores for killing Jews, and if Civ was shipped with Hitler in it and easy modding, the people who like that stuff would have a day of glory. Firaxis might not care for that. Anyway, I just don't want to play a game with that unspeakably evil man (and extremely lousy statesman and strategist) in it.

Heh, yes. I'm not too fond of Warlords myself. What I am really waiting for is the *next* XP. Though I do love the Great Wall, when I manage to get it once in a while. They really mst keep that one in.

If Firaxis should ever be mad enough to market a version of Civ where one can play as Hitler, I would, for the first time ever, refuse to buy it. I'd be as likely to buy a game called "Camp Auschwitz". Since there are undoubtedly a great many people who would react the same way, I find it highly unlikely that those who apparently would like to play as Hitler in Civ will ever have their wish fulfilled.

When someone trots out the hackneyed argument that Mao and Stalin are included, so why not H., that does not change my mind. Nor, I submit, does it change the mind of others who feel the same way about this.

How can you even say that? How can you deny history? I find that completely close minded and ignorant, but enough trolling. I can't believe that Stalin and Mao are in the game but Hitler is not, they were in the same war and were both mass killers. If you refuse to buy a game that has Hitler in it, why do you not refuse to buy a game with Stalin or Mao in it, isn't that just a double standard?

How did anyone vote "No" at all? I guess I could understand if you didn't want to see Stalin or Mao or anyone relatively modern in the game, but otherwise it is just silly to pick and choose which of the brutal leaders should go in and not to go in. Either include them all or include none of them, and since they have already included 2 of the 3, why not go all the way. Just remove Hitler from the German version, there are many games that have done similar censorship in the history deleting country known as Germany.

Hitler was a great leader, he brought the German people out of a recess, just as FDR did to America. To quote Wikipedia (although not a scholarly source, I'm sure I could find countless "good" sources if you wish): "Hitler oversaw one of the greatest expansions of industrial production and civil improvement Germany had ever seen, mostly based on debt flotation and expansion of the military." I really just wish Firaxis would get the balls and put Hitler in the game. I have him in my single player game, but I would like to have the option of using him in general online games.

P.S. I'm not some Neo Nazi person. I despise what the Nazi's did, but that doesn't change history or the facts. I don't like to cover up the past, I like to learn from it.

I voted yes, because we have Stalin and Mao, in my country people hate Stalin more... because we had Hitler experience only 3 years(1941-1944) but Stalin's concequenses were about 50 years. Yes Civ4 market here is small and people still buy it. I personally do not play as Stalin.
The reason why Hitler is banned in Germany is Jewish and US lobbywork. I think that German people themselves do not care about it.

But in Estonia here is a sentence "The wolves are feed and the sheep are unharmed" ... why not make an option during install... when you can Drop some leaders and replace them with someone else.

Just you have to choose 5 of them... in german version you cannot choose hitler for example
