You probably don't understand the point. I just point out what bias not always work. England could start far from coast, etc. So even if Spain has NW bias, it will still be a gamble.

Agreed. I had several failed attempts to play as Rome where there were no iron sources available at all before I got a start with one.
The Iroquois def have a forest bias though.

Spain is like a box of chokolates, you never know what you'r gonna get.

I like Spain, they depend so much on the map, so I have to adapt.
The most important thing is to explore, they are about the only civ I would consider attacking a city state with, getting a puppet with a good natural wonder can be sweet. Also remember to explore the seas, if you are the first to find a natual wonder on an island you can gain a good mid game boost.

Also as mentioned earlier, thay can be very capable in a mid game war.
