You can have your opinion as you want, misconceptions, stereotypes, and all. :)
you're supposed to moderate this forum fairly.

So, will you treat a quoted borderline profanity - especially in a long post - the same as the original?

The rule in place was basically 'no profanity', it was enforced as such.

If someone posts an article and 'quotes' it, they are responsible for it's content. They put it in their post.

So, for your direct question, 'will you treat a quoted borderline profanity - especially in a long post - the same as the original'; Since borderline profanity will only get a warning, the person who quoted it may also get a warning for repeating it. It's not a black and white decision. It's based on context, intent, timing, etc....

the context would seem not to matter as the context of the swear word is in the quote, so the context is the same both ways, and why does intent matter? will i get a less harsh punishmentfor disa
greeing with him? or for agreeing with him? and how does timing matter? how is quoting him on tuesday different from quoting him on wedensday?

Context can matter when the profanity is the main focus of the reason you are quoting someone. That also leads to intent.
The timing can matter when your quote was done after a Mod had already warned them for their usage or before a warning was given.

BTW, your signature is too big, please correct it.

Well obiously mods don't read really long posts very carefully. I posted an essay a few days ago that had at least one or two swear words in it that weren't autocensored out, and no one ever said a thing to me? Was it because no one read the long post? (most likely) Or am I just above the rules. ;)

 typical American PC police overreaction!

I'll not quote any post longer than 1 sentence from now on, because I MIGHT miss something someone might call a profanity or not.....

come on folks, live is tough enough for non-native speakers here.
But essentially you demand that they mod the posts they reply to, too?
Why American?

I'm as far as from an American as you can find (heck, I'm not even White!) - and I fully support the move to clamp down on the excessive upping of swearing and stuff lately. :sniper:

If mods are to read every post, we'd be stretched so thin, that you can see the sunlight coming thru us... :p

And it's not like all those posts are gems of wisdom or something... :p

Sunlight can be a good thing. :crazyeye:

and I'm not quite sure I understand your second line. Are you saying not all of my posts are gems of wisdom...or as a whole not all posts are gems of wisdom?

But anyway, I agree with the crackdown of filthy, scum driven words.

Take your pick... :crazyeye:

But anyway, I agree with the crackdown of filthy, scum driven words.
:hatsoff:

btw, I think the essay I wrote with the swear word in it is in my sig...but it is really irrelevant.

Oh, and I pick the second thing I said, because we all know that all of my posts are gems of wisdom. ;) Or was that gems of stupidity...time will tell.

What? How am I supposed to quote Father Ted now, should the need arise.

I guess you can post a less "salty" version of the quote. (When I mean "Salty" It refers to the term sailors once had since they swore all the time. Another yet useless tidbit ;) )

@Wildfire: could you explain the word? I couldn't find it in a dictionary. (I'm not planning to use it, whatever it means. But if I run across it again I'd like to know the meaning.)

It's a made-up word from the TV comedy show Father Ted, which is about Catholic priests. I assume the moderators don't like it because they're Protestants :D .

I'm not a Protestant... :p

So...

Is any variation of a swear word bannable?

If the, you know, word is, does that mean "fack" and "fock" and other variations of other curse words also bannable?
