The PTW Patch

After some considerable delays and anvious waiting (the company sending me the original Civ 3 instead of PTW) I finally got my hands on Play the World sometime last week. Obviously I loved it and I've been playing it constantly but I've now discovered a problem. on the bottom of the Main PTW screen it says I'm running "1.01f" so I decided I should get the latest path. So about 40 minutes and 9 meg later I downloaded "Play the World Patch US v1.14f" but as the time being 3am, I decided to get some sleep. I woke up this morning and started to install it. It said something about "read-only files" and needing to install some or overwrite some or something like that, so I said yes to the two boxes that came up asking me. but now it won't let me play the game, everytime I click on the icon it asks me to input the PTW disk, dispite the computer registering the disc and allowing me to go into my D drive and click on the .exe itself with similar results.after a few attempts I simply reinstalled it back to "1.01f" and now its working fine.

However, when I try to install the patch again it asks if I want to "completely remove the selected application and all its components" which is now causing me a great deal of confusion.

Is this some problem on my end? or should I try to download the patch again, from the other mirror site.

The prob appears to be the patch is only for the USA. Its to do with the Safe Disk. There is another thread here that has a better explaination. I suppose that ya have to reinstall the older version for it to work properly or else get a patch to over look the disc.

Ah yes. I have had this problem too. To fix the problem you will have to uninstall and re-install Civ 3 PTW. THis will give you version 1.01f running again. I have the UK version of PTW and so it won't work for me either. If you go to www.civ3.com and then to patches it will say by the option to download 1.14f that the patch is only compatible with US versions of the game. I have been looking around but so far i have been unable to locate a UK version of the patch. If anyone does know where I can get a UK version I would be very grateful if they could tell me!

There are two versions of the European 1.14f patch available - one in German and one in English. You can get them from http://www.infogrames.de/productpage.php?productID=218
