The Quest: Part 1

Possibly irrelevant/unnecessary addendum: ...since this is a randomly generated map.

I have discovered (from the American SG I'm currently playing, based on @Marla_Singer's World Map.bix) that this is not necessarily true on prebuilt maps: the game doesn't always seem to register some of the visible river-sections (which will all have been placed by the map-creator).

On that particular map, many tiles which appear to be adjacent to the Colorado, Rio Grande, Amazon, and the Rhine, don't actually give the freshwater bonus.
Indeed, that's a mistake of the creator. The purpose was to have rivers following realistic courses despite being very close to one another (particularly in the European context). As I recall, I struggled as all rivers were joining together and it's only much later I've found out the process actually disabled the river bonus on some tiles.

But remember: to Settler-abandon at Pop1-2, the town must be making a net zero (or negative) food-harvest on the turn the shield-box is filled.

So I turn all pop into Entertainers so no food is being collected, is that right? If the city pop is 2, do I get the Settler back or will I need a brand-new Settler?

OMG OMG OMG, a legend speaks! :faint:

Please know that absolutely no offence was/is intended: your map is a fantastic piece of work! TBH, I'd pretty much assumed that the river-glitch was in the Editor, because I ran into similar problems when I tried to make a map of my own (EarthSea).
So I turn all pop into Entertainers so no food is being collected, is that right?
Specialists are an option, though Scientists -- or Taxmen -- are always preferable: beaker-/coin-collection happens before shield-collection, so the town will still give you something before it's abandoned.

Or just put all pop-points on zero-food tiles (Mountains + Deserts if available).
If the city pop is 2, do I get the Settler back or will I need a brand-new Settler?
Yes, you do get the Settler: you'll get a pop-up saying there isn't a sufficient population to build it (i.e. and keep the town), and do you want to abandon the town? Just click yes.

And with non-Agricultural Civs, you can even Settler-abandon a town at Pop1.

So I Abandon the City but I didn't get the Settler back.

I built a new Settler and established the new city as shown:

Maya's on my continent, too?!! AAGGH! Smoke-Jaguar was a MAJOR pain in the butt during the Solo TDG mentioned (and linked to) in the original post. :cringe:

Good news: Lincoln won't trade with me (does he start with Alphabet?), but Smoke-Jaguar will. :D

I got: Pottery, The Wheel, and Ceremonial Burial
He got: Alphabet and 6 Gold (Lump Sum)

Bad News: Lincoln built Philadelphia on the southern part of the continent probably making a beeline for the Horses (White Circle). :(

I get the feeling that I'm going to get pinned in, and I might be in for a fight. :ar15:

I need to find a good spot for a Settler Factory and quick or this game could be over quickly! :yup:

This is getting interesting. :hmm:

Did you actually set the town to build (and complete!) a Settler (in the city-screen), or did you simply use the right-click "Abandon City" option (on the main map)?

Because the first course is what is meant by "Settler-abandoning", and is what I suggested and described, here:
If not, the Spear-build could be switched to a Settler (it's more than halfway there already) and the town abandoned and refounded (you could even chop the Dyes-Forest into the Settler, if you can get a Worker there fast enough). But remember: to Settler-abandon at Pop1-2, the town must be making a net zero (or negative) food-harvest on the turn the shield-box is filled.
But if you simply went for the latter option, then no, you don't get a Settler. You don't get anything.

Here's how things look in 1000 BC:

I have 2 more cities (Gordium and Antioch; each built on a River), and I got to the Horses first! :goodjob:

You're not going to believe this:

Inca Final.jpg

I personally can't believe it. 4 Civs on one continent, leaving the entire other one to one Civ. Like I said in the pic, must be nice. :gripe:

Good news: Inca traded me Iron Working for 136 Gold. :deal:

Bad news: Like always, there is no Iron anywhere near me. My Warriors have found it in the Northern, Central, and Eastern parts of the continent. :wallbash:

I'm not exactly sure how I'm going to get the closest one (it's on the other side of America). I can build Chariots and the best defensive unit I have is the Spearman. There is currently a Veteran Spearman fortified in Antioch to protect the city with the Horses with another on the way. (See pic)

I apologize for the lack of updates but I went back to work, and things are a bit hectic. I will try to continue the game soon. :)
