The questions-not-worth-their-own-thread question thread IV

Fully developed is one thing, but they would lack any life experience. IE they will be bigger and stronger, but not smarter. They wouldn't even be able to speak any language and would likely not even know how to walk properly. :) It would basically be a baby in the body of an adult.

Oh and... if they became adults faster, they'd likely die faster too. ;)

Bah, the scientists can figure that stuff out. Teach 'em in the womb.

This could so be the premise for a dystopian novel/movie.

Should I buy a Geforce 9600GT for £100 to replace my aging and 'rediculously outdated' 6600GT? Buy today, be here for Tuesday, in time for Empire: Total War on Wednesday!

I think it should improve many games, not just for Empire: Total War. If you have any game that even ran a tiny bit slow it should make it faster and with higher graphic settings. I think it may depend on what else the card improves, not just the series, and of course everything else needed by the game requirements. Have you checked the power requirements of the card?

If you haven't opened up the computer before, you should try to clean out the dust inside.

If your computer's power supply doesn't meet the power requirements, the card won't work or barely work. I think it may cause other problems, like turning the computer off if the graphics become too demanding.

Checking the NVIDIA website, I can't see anything about power supply. :hmm: Where can I check this, or will computer already have sufficient power supply?

If I buy an item from an American website, is the money automatically translated from my account into US Dollars? I am living in the UK, so currency is obviously Pounds Sterling. If I buy an item for say $100, do I just insert the necessery information and the money automatically deducted to the correct value, or do I have to first convert the money myself?

Wow, why are computer parts so expensive in the UK?

I meant 9800GT, but I agree, they are expensive.
Oh, ok then. Now it makes more sense. :)

Requirements

Minimum of a 450 Watt power supply.
(Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 24 Amp Amps.)
Minimum 550 Watt for SLI mode system.
(Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 30 Amp Amps.)

I got one of those on boxing day for ~165 CAD. Only con was that it's a HUGE GPU.

First off, 6600GTs were made for AGP x 8 and PCIe... so if you're running the AGP x 8 version, you're not going to be able to stick a 9800 in. You'll need a PCIe slot in your computer. Second, I doubt your stock PSU is greater than 300 watts so yeah, you'll have to upgrade it or go crazy with constant crashes.

Paypal or the credit card company will do the conversion for you, and they'll make 1-2% of selling you USD slightly below market.

The only time I hear the term "oriental" in America is in reference to food. Things like an oriental chicken salad, oriental salad dressing, etc.

Furniture and home decor and so forth.

Why is Mitch Hedburg considered "funny?"

Because people have senses of humor. :)

You don't have to laugh.

Why do human babies/children suck while every other animal on earth has much better babies? Like kittens and puppies and bear cubs are incredibly cute and funny, and bear cubs can sick their mothers on things. Baby giraffes are born 6ft tall and can kick a lion in the jaw, horses are born running, but human babies are useless annoying little selfish gits.

Because of our giant heads. So much of our body-building energy goes into making our giant heads, at the expense of other stuff like being able to walk when we pop out (like giraffes). But our heads are so freaking giant that they can't fit through a lady's pelvis when they're ready to drive our walking. So we have to pop out early when our heads can still fit though mama's crotch, then be looked after and crap in bags until our heads are big enough to manage walking around by ourselves and crapping in pots.

Spoiler :
Oriental chairs!

How close are the Scandinavian languages to each other? Like, can Norwegians and Swedishes understand each other in any fashion? What about Norwegian with a German even?

I had a Danish friend that understood Norwegian fine. I have no idea if that's normal though.

I just remembered when my mom made the assertion that my dad could understand spanish simply because it was so similar to Italian, which my dad got kinda mad at actually saying he can't even understand souther Italian dialects, why would he understand Spanish by itself. Said he only understood it from having been around Spanish speakers for so long. I thought maybe because the Scandinavian languages are closer to each other from what I've been told, they may understand each other.

I think it is probably true. i took french in high school and spanish in college was a lot easier because of it. It hasn't made Mandarin any easier.

Well, I took Spanish in grade school, then Italian in High school, and the Spanish did nothing but make me constantly confuse the basic words from one with the other. I had a cool teacher who would generally not care if the grammar was right and the word wasn't completely wrong, but still. Have to start reading some stuff in Italian or take another class, I'm starting to forget what little I knew already. How the hell do people become fluent from classes? I honestly can't see how I could get fluent without listening to people speak it, only from listening to my family members do I even still remember what little I was taught.
