I think that you're mixing some Civ3 in there, Civanator.

We cannot trade communications with other civs in Civ2 - unless I'm missing something. Also, there is no territory map per se - it's all about the world map.

Trade is also a caravan thing. We can't sell techs for per-turn gold or anything.

I would like to see if we can trade maps or techs. Don't know how keen they'll be to do so, but it never hurts to ask.

I voted demand tribute. Maybe we'll get lucky and give us stuff, I highly doubt they would declare war on us.

Remember, the Chinese built the Great Library, and considering that the Romans had 3 techs that we did not, then I'm willing to bet that the Chinese have a fair number we'd like to have as well!

Maps from them would be nice. Then we could train a bunch of dips and send them in to take, take, take. Trading or demanding techs are other options as well.

However we could just continue our war against the Romans and steal the techs that we do not have...and stay at peace with the Chinese.

I know that this poll is closed, but I'm going to dispute the result anyway.
You Civ 3 folks don't seem to appreciate the circumstances in which a civ will agree to share their territory map with you. They have to have a Worshipful attitude towards you before you have any chance. This will depend on the attitude of their ambassador when we go to meet them, but the usual way to improve their attitude is to just gift them as many techs as is necessary. Since they have the Great Library then it is doubtful whether we have enough techs they do not to gift for them to become Worshipful. Bearing in mind that Pellaken seems to be playing in MGE, with the notoriously unfriendly AI, this is definitely not the best option here. I'd also move to have the result of this poll annulled as only 5 votes does not make it representative at all. :(
But if you really want to tell Pellaken of the result of this poll then just send him a PM with the info in. Or get someone who posts in the turn chats to tell him for you. Or do both. Or, or, or....:crazyeye:

Oh My god!

How long was this poll open??? I am going to ask The Duck to reopen it, there is only 5 votes and I have not voted yet.

I agree with duke, there is a risk with trading maps and I usually do not do it. We have triremes out, lets use them.

I "vote" trade techs.

Yes Civnator let's his poll's exire to soon ,oh no problem though ,ill just reopen it.

Edit: Also edited some options out that were CivIII'ish.

Anyway ,nice work anyway Civnator :goodjob:

Demand world map - this option is not possible in Civ 2 either. They have to give you their world map of their own accord. You can only demand tribute, which they will either refuse or give in the form of money or tech.
Get a trade route and trade - this is not a diplomatic option either. It is an option regarding our stance toward the Chinese nation, but we can't suggest it in conversation.

Furthermore, how will we respond when they demand tribute from us? I would hope that we would not give it, but it may be the best thing to do, or the most popular. This poll should be changed wholesale to a more general attitude-based one, with options like: Generous (give them what they ask for & extra gifts if necessary), Demanding (wanting tribute), Hostile (looking for an excuse for war), Peaceful (prepared to give them what they ask for but no more), etc. Then the President could exercise his discretion in diplomatic dealings based on the guidelines form the poll. What do you think?

I'm aware of that ,though this option had a vote so i decided to leave it open as to say that it would be the same as option 2 ,and thus would be counted together with it.

Actually ,on second thought ,i can change the vote's.hmm i gona merge the option's.

Agree ,this has always been the way i had these poll's in mind.Well it's just a good suggestion for Civnator.afcourse he's the diplomacy leader ,he decide's the options.

I'm really sorry. I didnt know all of the rules in civ2. I only know everything from here or online cause my parents wont let me get civ2. I opened for 2 days though. i thought that would b long enough. guess not

Absolutly no problem ,and no need to apoligise.Everybody can make mistakes ,but one can not make mistake's while doing nothing.Every position is a bit hard in the beginning ,but one get's more experience easily ,so in the long run i'm sure you will do fine. :goodjob:

It seems to me that demanding tribute would be very risky and from my knowledge they seem to be quite far away from us so their map may not be very useful. So perhaps we should trade with them if it is fair or benefits us, or else do nothing...
