The Polynesians are certainly more deserving of a civ than the aborigines. At least some polynesians made statues.

The aborgines are still in the stone age. Keep in mind that Australia wasn't settled until the last years of the 18th century.

I really hope that people want them for world map reasons, other than that they are extremely pointless, imo.

And they somehow aren't pointless for world-map games?? Could one of the 30 something people who voted for this "civilization" please show me where exactly this immense amount of land with no civilizations is? To help you out, here's a map.

I voted for the Aboriginies. Anytime I play on a world map with true starting locations, It takes forever for someone to reach Australia and settle.

So the alternative is to have a civ that will have 40 cities with no competition by the end of the middle ages?

The Poles are Slavs, but hey, he was talking about the Polis - in Glasgow that means police. :D

That was exactly what I ment !;)

Way to hammer the point home, aaminion! :D

Although I'm pretty sure mrtn is against them as a civ regardless. He's one of us!

The aborgines are best represented by one or two barbarian camps.

:mischief: I represent them with10-20.......

@ Furius- Try Minerva (the goddess of Greece associated with her would be Athena, and if the dosent work Apollo, or even Iupiter himself)

and about the name, I dunno, just seemed like a coincidence, so I asked :)

But look at this, South America is now the domain of the Incas and the Incas alone. Sub-Saharan Africa is the domain of Shaka and Siberia is patchwork of cities from every country in the world. I don't like destroying the Isrealites only to find Samaria in Eastern Siberia.

@ Xen: Gave the computer a lecture last night and it has suddenly become more obedient, but for future reference, do I have to sacrifice anything? Would chocolate biscuits do?

Furious: if you fill Siberia with tundra, and set the editor so that it's impossible to build cities there (I do this with both tundra and desert), you'll not get as many Siberian size 2 cities. :)
thestonesfan: Of course I'm one of you. :D (did that turn out wrong :hmm: ) I've posted in this thread that I want Mali as a new civ. It would be nice to have some cultured africans in the game, and not just Shaka "Attack the English riflemen with spears" Zulu.

Mrtn: But I want some cities there (like Russian, and possibly Mongol) I just don't like finding Indian, Zulu etc. cities there.

@ Furius

nah, no sacrifices, just burn some incense, and all the fact and such off of some meat, thatlly do, and dont throw the meat away either, what isnt burnt is yours (meaning my religion is a tastey one too :))

you can try chocolate viscuts, but you dont get to eat them :(

But, what your map doesn't show is the large number of pacific islands that appear on many world maps in civ3. not that i'm in favor of adding the polynessians because firstly they are easy to add and secondly they wern't an actual civ that acomplished much in Civ3 terms.

Also, Australia should be a civ for several reasons.
1)they fill up the continent of Australia
2)They are a nice modern nation
3)They IMHO would be a very fun civ to play as
4)They are superiour to the aborigonies in nearly every way.

For similar reasons Brazil, Indonisia, Khemer, and Ghana or Mali should be added to the game. I would like those civs added along with the Inca and Maya who will already be added. That being said I would like the maximum number of civs that you are able to choose from be increased to 45. That would allow room for player added civs. The ones I mentioned above I feel would best be done profesionaly. But there are still some that I would love to play as. What I really want are some good Leaderheads and UU made for the following civs:

Byzantium(Cataphracts:love: )
Atlantis(as a sort of gaia civ to fill in any blank spots on the map)
Suoix
Ethiopia(done)
Polynesia(done)
Scotland(done)
Wales
Israel
Portugal(added to C3C)
Dutch(added to C3C)
Poles
Argentina
Canada(imagine them with a conquest victory)
some fantasy civ(I'm adding Mordor to my regular game)

See now doesn't my solution fill out the world map quite nicely, allow for the nice culturally rich civs too.

I personally doubt the Australians are as "superior" to Aborigines as you say they are.
Despite that Mali and other African civs ARE needed (much more than Byzantium anyway). If there are Pacific Islands on a World Map, put Barbarians on them. And remember, Polynesians may live on some of those islands but others contain Melanesians, Micronesians, or Filopinos.
Why do you discriminate against them?

And the fight for knowing who will be the next civ’s, carries on...

OK, I agreed not putting the Sumerian but YE! I didn’t had nothing to do it…

Still is a fact, WE DON’T KWON WHO WILL BE the other 3/4 civ’s…

Let’s visualize a world map:

In America:
- Americans, Aztecs (CIV: 1, 2, 3, 3PTW, 3C)
- Iroquois (CIV: 3, 3PTW, 3C)
- Sioux (CIV: 2)
- Mayas, Incas (CIV: 3C )

In Africa and Meddle East:
- Zulus, Babylonians (CIV: 1, 2, 3, 3PTW, 3C)
- Persians (CIV: 2, 3, 3PTW, 3C)
- Arabs, Turks (CIV: 3PTW, 3C)
- Hittites, Sumerians (?) (CIV: 3C)
- An African Civ

In Mediterranean Zone:
- Romans, Greeks, Egyptians (CIV: 1, 2, 3, 3PTW, 3C)
- Carthaginians (CIV: 2, 3PTW, 3C)
- Israelites
- Or other Mediterranean Civ

In Europe:
- English, French, Germans, Russians (CIV: 1, 2, 3, 3PTW, 3C)
- Celts, Scandinavians, Spanish (CIV: 2, 3PTW, 3C)
- Portuguese (?), Dutch (?) (CIV: 3C)
- And plus one or two European Civ’s

In Asia and Pacific:
- Indians, Chinese (CIV: 1, 2, 3, 3PTW, 3C)
- Mongols (CIV: 1, 2, 3PTW, 3C)
- Japanese (CIV: 2, 3, 3PTW, 3C)
- Koreans (CIV: 3PTW, 3C)
- One or two Asian-Pacific Civ’s

For me the remaining civ’s will be from Europe (2) and Africa (1). (If 4 – the 4th from Asia / Mediterranean).

True, but most of those are little 1 square islands. What could anyone accomplish with them? I had to add like 30 whales and fish to the region to give them a fighting chance.

I'm happy to tell you that Piernik has made a King Casimir leaderhead that looks EXACTLY like the real guy. The only thing that is missing is a customized Hussar.
:D

Lets go By-zan-ti-um, lets go :)

The remarkable things about the Polynesians was how far they spread their culture. Starting in what is present day Hong Kong they spread to settle all the Islands of the Pacific including the coastal regions or New Guinea, New Zealand and part of the Phillipines and as far out as Hawaii, Easter Island and (quite likely) the western coast of South America. They also travelled through the Indian Ocean and settled the Maldives and Madagascar. It is an amazing fit in and of itself to cover a hemisphere with a similar culture and language. True they were a weak civilization when it plays out because of their lack of resources that they found in their travels but that does not mean that the stadegem that they as a civilization actively took might not have been highly successful if histroy had played out differently. That is part of the fun of civlizations (I think) is seeing how the world might have been different. Everybody who like civilzations should read Guns Germs and Steel by Jared Diamond.

Regardless of the merits of the Polynesians (or lack thereof), I just don't think they would make a good addition to the game -- too many things would have to be changed to make them work -- bigger islands, lots of whales/etc.......
