Shown above are 4 men buried up to their necks in the ground. They can not move so can only look forward. Between A and B is a brick wall which can not be seen through. They know that between them are 4 hats, 2 x black and 2 x white, but they do not know which colour they are wearing. In order to avoid being shot one of them must call out to the executioner the colour of their hat. If they get it wrong, everyone will be shot. They are not allowed to talk to each other and have 10 minutes to fathom it out.

After 1 minute:

Q Which one of them calls out ?

Q. Why is he 100% certain of the colour of his hat ?

This is not a trick question. There are no outside influences nor other ways of communicating. They cannot move and are buried in a straight line. So A & B can only see their respective sides of the brick wall, C can see B and D can see B & C.

Just to clarify. I need BOTH answers at the same time to avoid any lucky guess work. Remember this is a riddle, not a trick question so the answer is in front of you.

i think i know, c is wearing a black hat, and he knows this because he is feeling heat on his head because of the sun, and black absorbs it making the black hot, a does not feel this because the wall is stopping the sun rays

Nope, there is no other factor (ie weather / sun) coming into play.

they cannot see the through the brick wall but the brick wall does not pass infront of them, so they a can see all the other peoples hats and he realizes that he must have a black because both of the whites have been taken and one black has been taken

Nope the wall does pass infront of them forming a total block of vision. (There are no tricks, the answer is obvious once you know it).

c knows the colour of his hat because before he was buried he saw the two white hats so he must have a black hat so he calls out!
