The Rise of Russia

Sorry again for the long delay. My life is a little busy right now as I've got job interviews and might move again soon! Also I've been having a go at an LP. Not sure yet. Need to polish my style and game a bit more!

Anyway.

PFT

Change a couple of tiles start to move troops north towards the barb camp and west to our frontier town.

IBT Edinnburgh sets the barb camp I'm already heading for as a mission target. Sweet.

We finally hook up Iron and I start upgrading our warriors to swordsmen.

Calendar is in and I switch to Philo and not Compass. After thinking about it more I decided that heading for Civil Service or Theolgy was more important than harbours. Esspesially as we have already started a road network.

Philo is in. There are two possible techs as I see it. Civil Service for the farm food boost, or Engineering for Lumbermills and heading towards Steel and Longswords. I lean towards Civil Service as we will be back in happiness soon so it would be good to grow a bit.

We also earn a SP. Again two choices come straight to my mind. Monarchy for the 1:c5gold: per 2 pop or Commerce for the 25%:c5gold: in Moscow. Commerce is slightly stronger with 3.75 compared to 3 GPT as we stand. It would still be good to get Monarchy even if not now.

Info

Lots of info screens this time. Its time to have a talk about a couple of important points in the game that are coming up.

First off the city screen ranked by gpt. Moscow and Novgorod should get Markets first.

This is the poiltical situation. Greece have been denounced by spain the board leader and are warring with England (and winning I think).

The next is the economic ties.

England and Spain are not DoF but are being friends and trading away with each other.

I'll post my thoughts on the game as a whole in the next post not this one.

The Roster
grandad1982
cripp7 - up now
CenturionXX - comp isssues
Chimera1804 - ghost in the system

I suggest we drop to 10 or 15 turns per set now we are in the ADs.

The save

So as you can guess I'm thinking about a war with England with limited aims and a fast result.

The aims of the war would be to take London and not worry about the rest of Lizs cities unless some unique :) or iron are in cities very close to London. Its a fast tactical strike not an all out war. To accomplish this I suggest 5 swords be availible before we DoW. We would need a road to cross the river W of Yaroslav' quickly. This could risk Izzy DoWing on us but only if Liz can bribe her I imagin.

On the home front, when we are happy again let the capital grow and only let the cities that have good tiles to work grow. In cities with Colossems try to stay at 4 or 5 pop for a bit. This would make Monarchy a good choice as the larger pop in Moscow would yield more gold.

Thoughts?

EDIT: The new patch is installing. What will this mean for this game? Will it totally mess it up?! Maybe having atopatch on for SGs isn't such a strong idea....

It all looks good. I'm catching up a bit after a vacation but I pretty much agree with everything. As for the patch, hopefully there won't be much that gets mucked up...we shall see what we shall see.

There's something wrong with my CiV, when I view a city with any building that has specialists I can't assign them. ie: library has no buttons to assign specs.

When did you last install a patch? The library specialist was removed in the patch before this one. I don't think we have any other buildings with specialists up yet.

I pulled up a save and its altered all the SPs so we have misse out on the free stuff assosiated with some of them. Also the tile yield values have changed so our income has dropped post patch.

I'm away from home ATM so I can't asses the game fully.

The one brief attempt at a post patch game I had started in a crash before the game loaded and when I got it going again it crashed several turns in. Great.

Steam installed the last patch, I wonder why they decided to the scientist slots?? I HATE STEAM, When offline I load CiV!

Hello.

So I guess that after the patch we are thinking this game is dead. Also only two active players is a very hard roster to keep going.

If you want to keep playing and anyone else out there decides they want to join the game as well then I'm happy to pick this up again.

In fact since its early in the game the patch changes haven't affected to much, and with the way Russias UA works you can get some really crazy production with the new patch!

Basically we can play on or if no one is interested then I'll have to conclude civ5 SGing is pretty much dead :(

I don't want this to be the case. SGing is one of the most fun ways to play a game that I have come accross. The interaction with other players always challenges and informs my perception about how civ can be played and enjoyed.

Working together with other members of the civ community also changes what is usually a solitary activity, which I also love, into a team activity that is dynamic, some times mentally challanging (communicating ideas and information for me), but is mostly fun and rewarding.

If this SG dies I may have some ideas in the pipeline, but....

....R.I.P. civ5 SGing.....? :undecide:

...perhaps, if it's not too much to ask, and as we're not too far, we could do one without DLCs...then we could have three active players (maybe four once Centurion has his computer sorted).

Like you I really like SGs...I haven't had opportunity to play in many of them and I'd hate to see it die completely in CiV.

Before I forget, though, I will be traveling from the 20th of March until the 8th of April...all that time I should have internet but no CiV. Just so you're aware before making any decisions.

If you know how I can roll a game without DLCs in it then I'm happy to give that a go.

Actually, now I think about it it would be much easier if someone without the DLC rolled the game.... ;)

I'm pretty sure you can just disable DLCs...not exactly sure where.

I could roll it if you wanted me to...like I said I'll be traveling for three weeks without CiV soon so I'll only be able to participate via forum but I'd be happy to get it started.

Cripp, I believe there was a thread about how even when there are no DLC civs the saves bear the DLC tag and require those DLCs to be opened...the thread contained instructions to "hide" your DLCs so this wouldn't happen.

EDIT: also, isn't the Satellites mod obsolete?

So it turns out that Satellites Reveal Map is not needed as one of the patchs fixed that but the UI mods are great.

I guess who ever gets a save up first should start a new thread and we'll pile in!

Oh yeah. It doesn't have to be Russia agian if you have another civ in mind.

@Chimera1804. If you roll the save before you go away, I'd be happy to wait till you got back.

@cripp7. If you roll the save then game on!!

...if I roll the start without all those UI mods that don't affect the save you'll be able to load it with those mods active, right?

Ummm.... pass. I know some say they don't alter the save. Not sure about info addict. Worth a try though.

Well I put it up with infoaddict. I've had perennial problems with trying to download other mods for some reason...i'd like to get some of the UI mods but can't. :(
