The RoM Slowdown Culprit

Fun Quotes said:
Communism doesn't work because people like to own stuff - Frank Zappa
Under capitalism, man exploits man. Under communism, it's just the opposite -John Kenneth Galbraith
Communism is like prohibition, it's a good idea but it won't work - Will Rogers
Just a few of my favorite quotes on the subject. Kind of funny that they are pretty much true.

In perfect communism there is no state

Indeed: If your neighbour needs a pick for the garden while you read at the fireplace yours is his, that's what it's all about. Doesn't matter what he thinks of the Mona Lisa you may adore.

The hippies as well as the cavemen practicised some of that, the problem is small groups work, large works easily get corrupted (as in capitalism, too btw). Nevertheless I try to live by it on a daily basis. Doesn't mean I tolerate everything, though. I am -8.31 tolitarian/libertarian, not -10, you see?

And last but not least:
Dear Mr. Giggles, I know you don't like me but keep this in mind please before ungiggling yourself any further:

I don't want soldiers to die, nowhere. I just don't want to backup soldiers giving in to dubious political goals by providing their services to that, neither thanking them for doing so.
I know it's a small line where to stop, especially as a medic for example.
In my home country I refused the draft and did social services instead. I can't understand why people would do it voluntarily but that's just my 2 cents.

If there was a draft in the US today, all their wars abroad would have ended by now, that's for sure!

...dubious political goals?

...violating international law, making up "evidence", contracting Halliburton etc.

I wouldn't want to backup any of that with my life.

Ok this needs to stop now. It's bad enough I see the idiots that want to see Palin have no idea that she ISN'T qualified, and now I see petty bickering between members. You all have your opinions, but this isn't the place to be posting them :nono:.

On an off topic item, doesn't that smiley look like it's flipping us the bird?

Afforess, do you have a rough estimate on when you plan to share your fixes/beta with the rest of us fangirls/boys?

Thank you for that.;)
Afforess said he will release a beta this weekend.:king:

<Is wondering how his question was in any way related to a former-vice presidential candidate, and is at a loss of how the question was an endorsement of said person>

On the same off-topic note, yes, it does look like it's giving us the bird.

It had to do with the fact that I am watching MSNBC while posting here, her idiot supporters happened to be spouting stupidity despite having the facts shown to them.

Thank you for that NBAfan, pity I'll be at home before then. I like the cable internet my bf has here, my DSL sucks back home.

<Shakes head>

Are you suggesting that my question was idiotic, or did you vent without making the proper separation of subjects?

You could interpret it that way, but I haven't been using the multi-quote feature like I should probably be doing. I was directing the 'knock it off' to everyone that was getting into the debate on just bashing DRJ. I may not agree with some of the things he says either but there is another place for that type of debate. I'm not taking sides for the pure fact that I don't really care. I just don't like having to refresh my page just to read miscellaneous comments when trying to sift through the useful posts.

Afforess, what does it take to fix the tech tree? If it is tedious work, I'll help with it since I have a lot of time on my hands at the moment. I have an OCP on having things be in the correct positions. I'll have to chat up Zappara on toying with his techs so the lines correctly show up and not have unknown 'islands'.

There are qualifications for politics? I thought you just had to be able to lie. ;)

Weekend, if all goes well.

Very tedious. The problem is 2-fold.

1.) I can not modularly remove tech requirements, or get rid of those arrows. I need to edit the main XML file to do that.
2.) The tech tree is too crowded, and about 7-8 new columns need to be added, especially for the later eras, to give some adequate breathing room. I had plans to space it out one day, but if you want to tackle the spacing, go ahead. It's pretty simple X,Y coordinates. Each tech box takes up one X coordinate and 2 Y cooridinates. Play around with a tech or two first to see what you're doing.

Which XML is it or is it a string of XML files?

In Rise of Mankind/Assets/XML/Technologies, it's the Civ4TechInfos.xml

I recommend you download notepad++ for editing XML. It makes it much easier. Oh, and always back up your changes.

Thank you for that. It's funny you recommend Notepad++ because I've been using it since I started learning to debug python a couple of days ago. It is a great program and I changed my PC to open most things with it now by default. :goodjob:

Lol, I program everything with notepad++, even my C++ and Java stuff. It's the best text editor, hands down. ;)

Actually, on second thought, after looking at the vanilla RoM 2.8 tech tree, I should probably leave it alone. I have no way to move them around without messing up the way they are aligned now. If I could make the darn thing taller (vertically) and figure out the max heights and widths of the entire tech tree along with the space each individual tech takes up I may have a better idea. I'd like to just space them out a bit more vertically but I'm also not sure if the tech tree screen will distort it or what it may do if I did space them more. Personally, I'm doing it on a screen with a 1280x1024 resolution on my 19inch LCD CT monitor so I'm not sure how the height and width is affected by resolution.

The tech tree displays the same number of techs, regardless of monitor size. Just the size of icons, text, etc... is scaled.

I'll probably change it myself in time.

Hmm, if that's the case then it gives me a bit more leeway to tinker with it. What I wanted to do was to space them out so that there was enough room in between each tech for an additional one. Do you think that's a bit excessive or would it be okay? In your opinion, would you want me to do a whole tech space or some other increment?

FYI, I would not touch the alignment, just how they are spaced vertically.

That would be very handy. Not all the columns need spacing, some of the Renaissance is already a little empty. But the modern and future era's are very full.
