The Second Expansion Set - Fact or Fantasy?

I just hope they don't go overboard like EA Games and Maxis did with The Sims series.

Civilization IV: The Civs

They are some of the world's greatest leaders, warlords and visionaries. And now they are all in ONE HOUSE!

Take your civ leader out of the palace and into the big wide world!
Decide what periwig Louis will wear to the ball!
Will Alexander go out on that date with Hatchepsut?
Help Genghis decorate and furnish his yurt!
See Stalin's day at the office!
Watch Ragnar get drunk and beat up some yuppie!
Help Isabella burn the witch next door!

And then take your leaders down to the 'War Room' to dance the night away to a funky disco beat and make out with Catherine!

Hey be fair. It is still a 'artificial' intelligence. Our best actual machines have the brains of 6-7 years old humans.

So of course i will give my 6 - 7 years old 3 kings and 10 queens, because otherwise it will be boring for me , won't it ?

I've previously stated that they will be two more exps, it's an extrapolation I must explain :
1 / Civ 3 got 16 civs in Vanilla version
2 / PTW added 8 civs
3 / Conquests added 7 civs
4 / 16 + 8 + 7 = 31 ; ( 2 x 16 ) - 1 = 31
5 / Civ 4 got 18 civs in Vanilla version
6 / Warlords added 6 civs
7 / ( 2 x 18 ) - 1 = 35
8 / 35 - 18 - 6 = 11
9 / subsequent expansion don't add more civs than previous
F / next expansion wil add 6 civs and last only 5

As for difficulty level -- people are still beating up emperor difficulty, even with new AI. Noble is still very winnable for EVERYONE, if they take the time and effort to read up on the game and implement the strategies and tactics they've learned.

That said, there is a need to reduce inherent AI-AI trading/relation bonuses to balance out the tech-boost they got from being smarter.

Smarter AI is always good. Artificial bonuses are not.

Very logical, reasonably assuming they retain
the max of 32 civs including barbarians.

I wonder what they will call the next one.

After warlords, great builders/great leaders?

I hope for the CIVIV: Explorers exp.

I think it makes sense because:

-Then it would be natural to add Portugal and the Netherlands as civs, some native american civs, and perhaps an asian and african.....

- An Age of Discovery scenario would be of interest for alot of fans

- In warlords we had some new medieval and ancient units, now its time for the the age of sail and gunpowder. I would like to see ships of the line, and the early gunpowder age should last longer..... The third exp. can be about the industrial and modern age....

- An expansion like this will also open for improvements making the naval aspects of civ more interesting, perhaps even great admirals can be a new feature, and the coastal fortresses can make a come back....

- Colonies might make a comeback as well.

What do you guys think?

I have a title for the second expansion.

CIVILIZATION : ENGINEERS AND DISCOVERERS

with 6 new civs >> Ethiopia/Mayan/Siam/Babylonia/Portugal/Iroquoise
plus other features included such as TheLopez's Civilizeditor which appears to be a no brainer having it for all the civplayers.

Bye

Yes yes yes. My sentiments too. I want to see a Genetic era expansion, but I think you're rightr that they should come in blocks accentuating a period. Sail and gunpowder next, much more naval intrigue.

Some ideas I've been throwing around include a kind of "armored cruiser" that comes in between modern warships and ironclads...look at late, late 19th century for an example. AEGIS cruisers maybe, as well...

Perhaps you could intercept trade route commerce and convert it to gold if you blockade an enemy port city? How about privateers in the Age of Sail, so you can pillage enemy fishing boats for cash or can also steal from nearby cities?

And here's a strange one: does anyone remember how coastal fortresses in old-school Colonization opened fire on enemy blockading vessels? Think it could work?

Great ideas Antilogic. The blockading and privateers could be nice features in Civ4: Explorers.

I like the concept of Aegis cruisers and rocket weapons to, and I'd love to see those things in a third exp. covering the late industrial and modern age.

Man, you guys are really sticking to that Explorers name. :)

I missed mentioning rockets in my post--I would love to have some cruise missiles again. Those were just great for laughs...

And how about paratroopers? Here's an early idea from me:

Paratroopers:
Gunpowder Unit
Prereqs: Radio and Assembly Line?
20 Strength, 1 Move
1 first strike chance
Can paradrop from a city with an airport anywhere within 6 tiles, and then move and attack normally or pillage (must have LOS to paradrop, cannot paradrop into an hostile occupied square).

In terms of Civilizations, I'm hoping for the Maya, the Dutch, Sumeria/Babylon, the Byzantines, and the Portuguese. There's a jumble of about a dozen others I want to see as well (like Austria), but they have a lesser chance of making the final cut. I also just want to see about twenty new leaders--try to give most civilizations a pair of guys to pick from, and add Honest Abe for the US! Or Jefferson...

Well, you see, the Explorers name perfectly fits the naming of the first expansion; Warlords. What a third, and more modern aged expansion should be called, I'm more unsure of.... Perhaps Civ4: PC nerds? ;)

Kidding of course, can't find a fitting name for the more modern age yet.... Astronauts perhaps, but then again, what about the kosmonauts?

An explorers expansion is a nice idea but since the AI doesn't know how to use boats it would be a dumb and easy expansion.

Civilization IV: The Civs

Actually, that's like I play sims already. ;)

And as long as Civ4 is popular, they might as well try to squeeze a few more bucks out of it. Personally, I don't know if we need a civ 5 for a long time (couple new generations of computers). The graphics and gameplay basis of civ4 is such that I think it could live on indefineately with an x-pack now and then.

For the next expack, I was thinking they would do something like Civilization IV: Prophets. It completely expand and revise the religion system, along with the addition of holy wars and such.

Hmmm, does this mean we will get the first news about the new expansion before christmas?

The idea to this game wasn't to make it so that it was only possible through a great deal of warmongering, but this AI patch has made it like that. I wish I had the patch without the so-called AI fix.
