The Second Reich - Germany's Hegemony

Speaking of Hispanola, think you'd be able to do a story about them? :mischief:

Surviving as Hispaniola would be a huge challenge... sucky infantry, powerful enemies all around...

Well, you're good and taking on challenges are't you? I mean, you unified the Americas, you dealt with those porcupines and hedgehogs AND you, uhhhh..... :mischief:

Give it a go, and you'll be hailed as the greatest leader in the whole civ world. ;)

Yay! I love your stories Tanicius. We are pretty far off in politics though. Economic Left/Right: -7.88
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.56

Russia is going to be a very serious problem for you in the near future by the looks of it. Better watch out for them.

Well, don't take political compass too seriously... sometimes the questions can be very confusing and mean different things for different people(i.e. there was the question 'are the rich taxed too heavily?' when common sense says that it's better to ask 'do you prefer a flat tax or a progressive tax?' to distinguish between left and right ideologies... :crazyeye: ).

I'm top of that, the political compass score almost always changes. ;) That's why I posted two separate scores in my signature, because I can either come off as a soft-righty or a soft-lefty... personally, I find the labels "liberal" and "conservative" worthless... I am who I am, damnit! :)

But alas, this is not Off-Topic, so we need not worry about political differences... We can both pretend to be Germanic warmongers as we drive the world into the ground. ;) Heil Großdeutschland!

Russia is going to be a very serious problem for you in the near future by the looks of it. Better watch out for them.

Indeed... it gets worse though. They end up taking Basra somehow too... even the impassable mountains can't help them back it seems. The key is to have the offense though. ;) Russia's cavalry only have 4 defense in contrast to 13 attack. Needless to say, with crappy infantry(7/7/2), they'd be cut to ribbons without City Guards to protect them.

Yeah but their units are cheap so they really start cranking them out after a while. They flood you with them I've seen them crush Germany before with waves of Cossacks and infantry.

Then I have this to say to the Red Menace: "BRING IT ON! Großdeutschland will NEVER surrender!"

I'm sure I'll be fine. ;)

They big Red machine just might give you a little headache, tanicius. You may want to be careful.

Rawr! I can take them!! *tries to reach for Russia, but Shadow and others restrain me*

 Do not worry everyone, Russia's time will be when it comes... I'll likely attack them once all Europe sans the British Isles is mine... and that means only Austria, France, and Spain remain. ;) Furthermore, I intend to exploit the Trans-Siberian to send troops to China... allowing me a huge amount of troops in the area, which can be shipped to attack Russia from the East. If I succeed in sandwiching them, and destroying much of European Russia in the first turn, victory shall be mine. ;)

Sounds good. I will love to see that War when their time comes. Ignorant peasants haven't even embraced the Bolshevist ways...

=== Week 41, 1895 ===

Mexico declares war on Central America. We expect a Mexican victory, of course.

Russia declares war on Portugal... as does Japan. ...And Chile.

The Russians take Constantinople. The Ottoman Empire collapses, being replaced by the New Islamic Caliphate, with it's capital at Baghdad. Russia outright annexes it's occupied territories, finally achieving it's dream of a united Black Sea coastline. Apart from of course, a tiny strip of coastline in Romania and Bulgaria. Despite it's independence, nobody recognises the Caliphate, viewing it as an extension of the Ottoman Empire(which itself claimed to be the Caliphate), and thus not entitled to any peace offerings.

In the hills outside Damascus, 60,000 men grouped into 8 units deploy. Coming next month, they will launch an attack on the city and begin the construction of German Arabia.

Spoiler :

=== Week 45, 1895 ===

Most interestingly, Spain declares war on Portugal. Perhaps the age old Iberian Union may be revived?

France declares war on the Dutch. They are late to the party, as we have already taken the rich mainland.

Brazil loses it's gains in La Plata, just as it seemed to be growing.

Persia declares war on the Ottomans! The Middle Eastern rift will play in our favor, most likely.

Influenza spreads, killing the City Guards of Hamburg. Ah well.

---

Spoiler :

While we lose 6,000 cavalrymen, we capture Damascus! We are divided on where to go next, but Marius suggests that the troops be sent at Baghdad, and Wilhelm agrees.

In the attack on Baghdad, 8,000 cavalrymen are lost trying to kill the local infantry. We down 5,000 of them afterwards.

We then lose 6,000 more cavalrymen, with the last infantry division being stubborn. But just as it seemed the wave had been blunted... 29,000 more troops arrived via transport from Athens.

Spoiler :

Alas, the city falls! Even hordes of infantry could not hold the Reich back. Despite having lost 20,000 of our 60,000 man force, two major cities of the Middle East now lay in German hands.

Spoiler :

Mosul falls shortly after with no units lost. All the remaining Turkish populations of the former Ottoman Empire are now under our control. The city is remote enough and small enough we need not consider defending it for the time being. That can come later.

Spoiler :

Amman falls with NO casualties whatsoever.

We must halt our offensive for the time being, but the "glorious" Ottoman Empire and it's successor state are clearly on the verge of collapse.

Operation: Desert Sturmtruppen is deemed a success. With the fall of Jerusalem and Basra, we can proceed to occupy the Arabian Desert, and end another war with German victory.

Spoiler :

=== Week 49, 1895 ===

Several major wars occur. The USA ends it's isolation permanently; it declares war on Brazil and Iceland. Then Central America as well, wanting to prevent Mexico from growing too much.

The British declare war on Portugal. We may need to fight the Portugese in the near future... luckily our armies are for the most part ready.

New Grenada declares war on the French.

Our mutual protection pact activates... we declare war on Portugal in accordance with our alliance with the British.

To help in the war, the British get the renegade Boers to declare war on Portugal as well.

The Russians surprise us; they capture Basra!

We also near completion of a trans-African railway; Only one tile between Kilwa in the East and Elizabethville in the West remains without a railroad. Once that's done, we can build a railway into Cameroon as well.

---

Spoiler :

Luanda falls in Portuguese Southwest Africa/Angola. No units are lost.

Spoiler :

Benguela falls with no units lost afterwards. It is a time for celebration! All of Germany's Africa colonies(except Togoland) now are united!

The Battle of Kuango is not as glorious. We lose 32,000 men - both infantry and our limited cavalry resources in the area - to kill two of it's four Colonial Infantry garrisons. Determined not to let opportunity slip away, the Kaiser demands several units leave their posts - to be replaced by drafted sentries - to attack the city.

The strategy works, with another Portuguese Colonial Infantry being eliminated. Another redlined Colonial is killed, until conscript Sentries take up the posts. These too are eliminated with no casualties.

Spoiler :

It took many precious German lives, but Portuguese Southwest Africa is conquered. Germany's empire now is continguous, dominating Central and Southern Africa.

---

Wilhelm delivers a statement, saying that is unanimously annexing the region and re-christening it German Angola. Our allies meet with applause at this message... though Britain seems more un-nerved each day.

---

Let us get back to fronts that aren't filled with misery and suffering(at least on our side!), such as the Middle East.

Spoiler :

Jerusalem and the Holy Land fall to us. Wilhelm II makes an in cognito visit to the city, to thank God for seeing his campaigns to victory the past year.

Spoiler :

Medina falls as well. All that is needed is Mecca, and the last traces of the Ottoman Empire will be removed.

--- Declaration of Iraq, Syria, Kurdistan and Palestine ---

After his secret trip to Jerusalem, Wilhelm surprised the military leaders of Baghdad when he showed up in their city. Bowing to their Kaiser, Wilhelm decreed a message was to be announced throughout the occupied Middle East.

"In the West, along the banks of the Jordan River... I decree there be the land of Palestine... in the northwest, the historical lands of Syria shall be reconstituted, the Kurds will be able to re-consolidate themselves... and in the east, Mesopotamia will be unified once more, under the banner of 'Iraq.'"

Wilhelm presented a map to his advisors of how the borders would look. The fate of the remaining Arabs would be decided later. Naturally, Wilhelm made sure to pack the administration of the 3 new countries with Germans, while also making sure key members of his court and family were made local nobility. Most of the northwestern areas would be placed under martial law, as part of the "Special Russo-Turkish Garrison Zone", which was pretty much a heavily militarised region to prevent Russian incursion into the Middle East.

The Russians responded in kind, decreeing their own occupied area to be Kuwait-Basra.

Spoiler :

=== Week 1, 1896 ===

A sneak attack by Arab Raiders kills 2 of our cavalry, and causes Medina to fall to the Arabs temporarily.

The Boers also take Lorenco Marques, giving them a port. The Boers - in a similar vein to the Germans after the Franco-Prussian war - view the victory as a sign of their unity's strength. The Boers agree to merge their states into one, the Great Boer Republic.

---

Mecca's captured with no units lost. Even Allah annot save the Caliphate from Germany's wrath.

Medina is also taken with no units lost.

Spoiler :

With that... the Caliphate collapses. Another campaign has closed. In little more than a year, two great powers and an entire region have collapsed into Germany's hands, while countless other countries and territories have joined the Reich.

The rest of the Arabic Peninsula is declared "Saudi Arabia", and has it's capital at Riyadh.

Wilhelm arranges for the purchase of all territory east of the Suez Canal as well, and rather than create some state out of it, outright annexes it to the Reich.

---

In Africa, the Portuguese have landed 16,000 Colonial Infantry near Luanda, apparently seeking to retake the region. We'll just have to weaken them sufficiently to prevent such a thing.

An elite Schutztruppe Cavalry is redlined, but we manage to kill one Portuguese unit. After that, a Schutztruppe Infantry manages to kill another and yet doesn't die. 8,000 down, 8,000 to go. We manage to kill the next two with ease. It's forgotten if we lost any units, but 1 was lost at the most. The Portuguese resources are probably very limited if even the Boers can take a city from them.

---

Spoiler :

Wow, the german reich is not bigger than France!!! I think it's time you woo the brits into following a german invasion of French west Africa. You must make africa a bastion of german culture and power: a bigger and more expensive jewel in the crown of the german emperor than india is for the Brits. =)
