Would it be interesting to have a competition in which people try to win space race on settler difficulty as quickly as possible?

Just wondering. Never even tried the easier difficulties. Would be fun to see how quickly people have reached the industrial age and all.

I bet it's possible to launch sooner on higher difficulties, where the AI techs meaningfully quickly and therefore can trade things to the player.

Sure, it might be more likely the player loses, but at the same time the launch date is earlier.

It'd still be kind of interesting though.

I am in the process... playing as Roosevelt (I like the combo)... and I am flying through the early periods, REXing like mad, while still giving lip service to my WE style.

I am using a small map (prefer it that way), and am facing Stalin, Isabella, Pacal, and Pericles. I set to Space Race only on the victory conditions, and am not really planning on doing much fighting... just putting everything into getting to the space race.

OOOK

wow. 1642 AD space race victory on emperor. My best is 1927 :D.
On Settler there's: 830 AD.
I guess it's faster to get the Space Race victory on Settler.

It's fun taking future tech with liberalism

In a space race you should probably take Superconductors with Liberalism, to get Labs earleir to boost research of techs after Superconductors. It's like taking future tech with the Oracle. Cool, but taking Civil Service is better for Bueaucracy.

maybe I'll just take liberalism with the oracle, then future tech with liberalism

Theres even a 1450 Deity space race victory!

How?

Like....

How?

Can anyone see the saves? I can't load any of them.

In order for a game to be valid for the HOF competition, we require all submissions use our HOF Mod. The reason you can't look at the saves is because you don't have the HOF mod installed.

If you all are looking for some competition games, I suggest you check out the current Gauntlet games and feel free to visit us in the HOF Forums. BTW, each gauntlet game has its own thread in the HOF forums for those who wish to discuss their progress.

In lower difficulties, you can blast ahead with bonuses, and in higher difficulties you trade to keep up while you research under the bonus that everyone else already has the technologies (look at research formulae if you aren't sure what I mean).

I suspect monarch/emperor has the slowest launch times. BTS slowed down the space race a lot with all those extra technologies.

I'm trying this out, but I'm tempted to take liberalism earlier than I could for emancipation rather than the free tech. I used Darius for the ultimate teching and eliminated the three other civs from my continent with immortals. The most difficult thing is managing growth with settler/worker output. I've got 16 cities in solid locations to become uber-commerce/production powerhouses capable of producing spaceship parts with lots of riverside cottages with room on my continent for probably 10-15 more cities, but I want the cottage growth enhancement from emancipation.

But on Settler, there are lower maintenance costs, which means more cities. And you can conquer your entire planet, but leave one city free, non-vassal. More land is more commerce is more beakers.

Hmmm. Apparently I'm dumb. I get emancipation from democracy not liberalism. der.

I launched my spaceship in 1462. I might have been able to shave a few turns of if i'd rexed harder.
