Some time ago I debated a bit with someone concerning the religious aspects of this game and how I thought it was modeled on "in the beginning" whereas he did not agree. One thing that strikes me now, that I wasn't sure about before, so I didn't mention it. Ever notice the family members? One man, one woman, and two boys. Adam, Eve, Cain, and Abel. I don't think that could possibly be an accident, because most anyone trying to make it look like a balanced family would have had a daughter and son instead.

A silly thing, but I think that's the point of it. Of course it is pretty silly when you have a whole gob of the Adam's family running around (pun intended).

I don't think I can even tell whether the two kids in the Settler are boys.
It could be an accident, they walk in a square formation IIRC.

Maybe, but that'd mean there's multiple Adams & Eves. Besides, Cain and Ablre were only two of their sons.
But, you could be right. Someone at Firaxis may have decided to put a little secret thingy like that in the game.

Or it could be they wanted a mother and father and two children, and couldn't be bothered to spend time modelling different sex children.

In the xml files the children are just refered to as "children".

It follows, that if one of them is a girl, she would have a pony-tail, or longer hair in any case, such as the mother.

I was under the impression that when Cain slew Able that they were the only offspring, though I don't doubt they later would have more offspring.

It's a boy and a girl. They are the classical nuclear family. It's fairly simple.

It's not a girl. Besides, it could be the Cleavers (two boys), only one of the boys would have to be a runt though  .

Well if you play with single unit graphics, it's just Adam and a rib.

Haven't ever seen the single graphics. Perhaps that rib is a very dirty crystal, just like the one Superboy got. Maybe that's it. We're witnessing the founding of Kryton and not Earth. :scan:

Civ 4 begins with the dawn of civilization, not the dawn of man. There were nomadic tribes running around before 4000 bc but they didn't stay in one place for very long.

Yeah, that's what that other guy was saying. I don't know, but to me, and probably only to me, whether someone is staying in one place or not, they're still essentially part of the dawn of civilization. I understand the game isn't
into modeling roamers, that is, with the people the human plays, but think about Cain and Abel for instance; the first offspring. Cain and Able must have been steady in one pplace with their parents, but when Cain has slewn Abel, he goes wandering, as though that's contrary to the Adam's Family lifestyle. IOW, if one would describe the dawn of civilization as the staying in one place as opposed to being nomadic, it would appear as though the first family wasn't nomadic.

The reason the game starts in 4000 BC is not because that's when certain christians believe that the world was created... but rather that that's around the time historians believe civilization started.

There is stone evidence in Jericho that indicates that buildings and structures were built between 7000 and 8000 BC. This is a clear indication that humans were living in a civilization and were no longer nomadic tribes. There probably were still nomadic tribes, but it appears that this is the timeperiod where the transition was made.

So that's what I've been doing wrong. All female must have long hair.
Try not to read too much into any particular game units. I'm sure if you do, you'll find half of the units with something strange about it. It's a game, not a bible story.

Maybe Firaxis was just trying save us 3000-4000 years worth of barbarians knocking us over.

It's bad enough to start with a bunch of tech and not have any workers to use them.

Can't you just enjoy the game without grafting onto it some biblical allegory? I think you should check whether the mother and father have bellybuttons and get back to us.
