Hey, is there any way to slow the expansion of the ai settlers and the awful way they lay cities to cover everything...I am playing Bannor right next to Kurio and he has me in a corner...I am considering crushing him..altho I only have 4 cities I am sure I will. He is, however, an alli of faith and also good...I like to try to keep within thematic boundries.

you could try playing with advanced start + no settlers, or no settlers + barbarian world. Makes sure the AI can only gain cities by conquest (or culture), not by settler rushing. Beware though, this also increases the amount of barbarians for the first couple of 100 turns (depending on speed ofcourse)!

With the Kuriotates, not really - they're supposed to do exactly that, which is why the AI Kurio frequently does so well. No settlers restricts them to some extent, although their core cities still become monsters.

This is the key to getting good with all the other ais! All you have to do is hate on the Kuriotates. :D They all hate them because their boarders spark tensions.

Sure you're not thinking of the Lanun? :P

Try the creation mapscript by cephalo in the Mods & Scenarios Subforum and see if you like it. It fixes that issue quite well and helps the AI cope with some wilderness enhancing settings like barb-world, wildlands and especially raging barbs. Really an enhancement.

That's just it...I was using Creation...first time ever actually..and I love it. But I was in this 2 valley system and got 4 cities out and by the time I could get to the exit of my valley the Kurio had filled the next valley and I was in the corner of the map.

Thats the way the cookie crumbles. If you play with a lot of people you generally only get one, maybe two valleys. Then you have to start biting the rest up one at a time ;)
