[GS] The state of the game, is it speeding through the eras?

Do the eras progress too fast compared to production on higher difficulties (Emperor and up)?

I voted way too fast but after reading some of these responses I am wondering if we are the problem. This game is sold to a lot of people and the few times I have gone to the Reddit Civ page I am left with the thought that most of those players are terrible. Lets face it we are on a site called CIVFANATICS! As I was reading the replies I was noticing how much we all know about every little mechanic in the game and how even if we aren't pillaging and chopping our way to victory we are still doing a ton of other things that help us race across the tech tree almost subconsciously as we play.

As others have mentioned the best solution would probably be a slider like the disaster one that would rescale the tech/culture costs in an appropriate way according to era.

Remember we are like a group of NBA players complaining the hoop is too low and dunking is too easy.

The only thing I'd add is that NBA players are physically gifted and can do things I couldn't do no matter how much time I spend learning about basketball.

It's the deeply asymmetric value of certain game decisions that can lead someone who's playing intuitively or based on how they expect the game should be played to take a long time to finish a game (wonders are good, right?) A better balanced game system isn't the same as raising a basketball hoop. It would actually make the game more fun (in my opinion) for everyone.

The reason I favour a self-adjusting tech & civic cost system is because it helps to balance other game decisions. I'd also argue that the higher difficulty levels should impose penalties on the player instead of bonuses to the AI, including higher tech and culture costs (although the idea of a slider that's independent of difficulty level is a good one!) But mostly, weak districts and buildings should be buffed, strong ones should be nerfed, and I can't see how that wouldn't make the game more interesting for everyone.

While on the topic of era speeds...did GS make it so that the required era score for a golden age scales with game speed yet? IIRC many people said it was too easy to get a golden age on slow speeds, and too difficult on fast ones.

NBA players may be physically gifted but you are probably mentally gifted in ways others are not. We could probably hit the gym and do some jumping exercises to work on our dunk but at some point just as you won't be slamming the ball from the free-throw most players of Civ won't be cruising through Immortal/Diety games and to be fair the effort required to get there isn't worth it to them just as you aren't going to the gym 5 days a week working on your fade away.
