so started an epic game I chose epic because I do not like how normal speed is over all to soon, but just do not have the patience to play marathon and wait 100 turns for a settler. (i like to build scount monument worker setler.)

playing immortal difficulty an experiment that could end in disaster as im not sure if this is even possible.

added 10 civs to a huge pang map so its really crowded.

I am playing as the aztecs and the game started with me been declared on by france rome and greece in quick succession before i had the chance to do anything.

with just one warrior i purchased a second one and successfully defended my city. all three kept asking for peace but only for all my gold and my second city which had horses so obviously could never accept.

noticed the vikings near me were weak and had a lot of iron so fought a three way war until all three nations eventually offered peace without conditions attached, then invaded denmark afterwards.

have taken 3 of there citys then took corinth of greece when a gang basically everyone asked me to attack greece. who were now directly on my border so i agreed.

then france declares on me again and for some reason when I am almost at longswordsmen they are sending archers and spearmen at me. my mil advisor tells me they threaten my very existence. horsemen and swordsmen fighting a billion archers and spearmen ends in a massacre france is crippled. however taking the french cities will open my borders to more exposure and I am already trying to reduce a nasty spot where i am sorrounded by threats from all sides. so I make peace with greece and france and now have 7 citys.

meanwhile despite greece fighting a 7 on one war they are mimicking real life and been true spartans the arabic army has been crippled as have the incas Persians and the danes who still have two citys left cannot see where yet so just peaced them and now they love me despite me crippling there empire.

rome is military destroyed after suffering a seperate gang bang but i am leaving them be because again exposes borders. so i have scotued the area and discovered that if i destroy arabia and mongolia i will be able to have a front like and not be sourrounded.

arabia are very friendly towards me but were going to invade me earlier before i proposed an invasion of greece after agreeing to invade greece with someone else, which altered there focus. Mongolia are been threatening and currently show as hostile.

Arabia are weak mongolia are not. if i fight a war with mongolia arabia can come back into the game but if i fight arabia then mongolia can get ahead. probably about to invade arabia as they have better land and can link straight to my road net works citys touching.

am tecnogically behind but about to get science on the patronage track so should be catching up. only just came into the early ad so plenty of time.

If i can succesfully invade arabia and mongolia then i think i will pull it off. might annex paris when i eventually take it. would hurt culture but then looks very productive city.

saved and called it a night.

am wondering if this game can go anywhere.

i would say attack mongolia first and just wait for the arabs to backstab you then destroy them while keeping some troops on the other fronts just in case they attack and get as many science buildings and upgrades as possible (more advanced military and more build options=easier victory) and try to be ahead in science

depends how your playing since im total war mongering and trying to form a huge empire of puppet states to build a large trade network for economy to support army library is not my first choice.

there are different ways of doing things if your playing a few small cities and building them to be very large then yes science buildings are useful but with this strat i like to have lots of gold and buy out all the city states for my science.

plus my production cities are not in fertile lands nice production but not fertile.

well any way you need to take the science lead and attack the mongols before the arabs

On Prince, science is not a problem even if you've 3-4 cities. What you need to do is use your GS to create academies & try to get Freedom Finisher as soon as possible.
Edit : Screenshots would help.

I have gone to war with mongolia and been delcared on by rome and france who offered peace within 3 turns.

babylon have totally wiped greece out who are now dead.

persia no longer like me and may invade

babylon are friendly but ae on my border now and have a very powerful army america look really scary.

I am thinking this is ridiclous
I have watched the videos of TGN games on civ and he reloads when he has a poor strat area my capital is and my situation is still sorrounded.

i am only just about to hit the renessasance and have a feeling some may be about to hit the industrial era.

I am playing oin immortal not prince so the science doesnt hold like that.

Im tempted just to give up as i am questioning whether this is possible for anyone regardless of ability.

going to call it a day and de stress by trying out the persians will come back to this game later bt i think its a fail.

my suggestion is to buy civ 4 and play that.

I played civ 4 its the only one in the series i never beat on deity and that tempts me to get it again and try again but i like to stick with the times and play the most recent.

There is very few situations where settling a GS is worth it - even with the new finisher giving double return.
Huge cites but less in number = Less Science compared to a big Wide empire. However it will have all science buildings built + wonders etc. So Academy is going to benefit greatly from that. I don't play vanilla, I use Thal Mod so maybe that makes a difference. Also I usually play on prince.

The accumulated science you get from doing a mid-late game bulb is exponentially greater then if you were to settle(even with all % increasing abilities). Honestly, you would have to settle the GS extremely early in order for it to return more(or even close to) what you would get from straight bulbing. This is not taking into consideration how big bulbing into an important tech can be either as that, in and of itself, can be a game changer. Generating the small amount of science a turn(even on marathon) you would get from settling is inconsequential to what you would get from bubling. There are a few rare occasions where it may be beneficial to settle, but it's hardly a 'if you've got a tall empire settle your GS'.

If you would like to look into it more there is a thread somewhere where accumulated output was jotted down and dissected.

I told u that I play Thal Balance Mod. GS bulbing tech ability has been nerfed & other GPs weak abilities have been buffed.
