The Sun Really Never Sets on the British Empire

Save is attached. Very weird as I'm certain I attached it earlier. Roster is a little more difficult as we've had so many skips. I have to run my son to baseball practice. When I get back, I'll post one.

edit. Crap. Save is too big. CFC is kicking it out....hold on.

This was the old roster...

Rex - (just played) last played Aug 25
Imhotep - last played Aug 21
Berserks - auto-skip until he gets a new rig
Sunrise089 - auto-skip until 2nd of September
Lukep - (up) last played Aug 13
Stuge - last played Aug 17
ChrTh - last played Aug 1

If I were to rework the roster based on who played last, it would look like...

ChrTh - (up) last played Aug 1
Lukep - (on deck) last played Aug 13
Stuge - last played Aug 17
Imhotep - last played Aug 21
Rex - last played Aug 25
Berserks - auto-skip until he gets a new rig
Sunrise089 - auto-skip until 2nd of September

I don't care which we go by. So if Luke or ChrTh can play rather soon-ish, let one of them grab it and we'll go by that roster.

fine for me.

About settlers, we are already in the 40+% range for domination. with what we will get from Louis, i would be a bit wary of keeping too much cities or settling new ones before fullfilling our SG objectives.

I would keep the minimum of louis cities up to Paris.

Took a look at the save. Question: Are we allowed to eliminate Izzy or Louis? I keep forgetting.

Ignore last question because it won't happen on my turn anyway.

2 Turns played. 6 cities (but which ones??!) have been dealt with. It's taking about an hour per turn, so I hope to get a 3rd turn played tonight and my final 2 tomorrow.

Ok, 3 more turns played (5 total), 2 more cities dealt with, 1 civ dealt with, 1 continent cleansed.

I'm going to play at least 1 more turn though, because I've set some stuff up and it's just quicker to do it than it would be to explain it. I'll play and have the report tomorrow.

Ok, sorry about the lack of pictures. I had 18 of them to report, but I have to run to the office (server issues) so it'll take too long to upload/insert.

Louis Lou-i, oh yeah, say that he gotta go ... yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah

Pre-Turn Report:

Ok, let's check the stats for Domination.
We have 39.48% of the World Population, and need 53% to win.
We have 46.08% of the Land Area, and need 64% to win.

I don't think our actions in wiping out France will trip either of these.

For the variant it looks like we need Tours or Lyons and Paris (otherwise we'll need to go after Egypt again if we don't take Tours). After that we need to take Seattle, Washington, and New York (we can raze Philly and Boston). That plus border pops should give us the variant requirements.

Turn 0 -- 1925 AD

Ok, I see a vulnerable SAM Infantry guarding Uranium. I kill it with a Modern Armor at 99.5% odds. I then bring a Gunship in to pillage the mine. I believe that's his only Uranium, so that should eliminate the not-yet-existent-but-could-happen-eventually nuke threat.

I think I got everything Rex has set up figured out, so I hit Save :groucho: and then hit Enter.

IT:

We lose a Modern Armor to an Artillery :grr:

Turn 1 -- 1926 AD

London: Modern Armor > Modern Armor
Canterbury: Modern Armor > Stealth Bomber
Polynesian: Settler > Barracks

(wait for a bunch of 'damaged by fighter' comments)

We'll start with Cherbourg.

Bomber run x4. Hrm, even with the bomber run, only even odds to attack. I'll wait a turn.

Focus on Seville. Stealth Bomber run. Modern Armor defeats Marine. Modern Armor defeats Infantry. Modern Armor defeats SAM. Modern Armor defeats Infantry ...

[SEVILLE FALLS]

They also lose 2 fighters as a result.

Next battle at Chartres. Stealth bomber run to reduce health. Modern Armor defeats Gunship. Modern Armor defeats Marine. Modern Armor defeats Marine. Modern Armor defeats Tank. Modern Armor defeats Infantry. Modern Armor defeats Infantry ...

[CHARTRES FALLS]

Chartres burns. They also lose a battleship, a transport, and 2 fighters.

Bomb Rheims some, but not enough to attack this turn.

Bernard Montgomery and his fighting Gunship take out the Artillery that killed the Modern Armor last turn.

Back to Cherbourg, where another fighter attack and some reserve troops gives me better odds. Mech Inf loses to Infantry. Mech Inf loses to Infantry. Mech Inf defeats Infantry. Yamamoto retreats? Dag, that was a lousy turn. I send Yamamoto back to Polynesian to heal.

Along the battlefront, Mech Inf kills a SAM guarding Copper. Battleship hits Besancon, and Stealth Bomber hits Tours.

Hmmm, this is the easiest battle I've ever fought

[CHEROKEE IS TAKEN]

... there were no troops in Cherokee! I just walked in. I keep it for sentimental reasons.

I build Dover on the former site of Seville so that the bombers can operate from there.

Ah, I have gunships that can attack Cherbourg ... they do, killing 2 infantry. Aarrggh, only a 2/20 Infantry remains, but I have no units that can attack.

Ok, 1 turn done. Let's look at the Victory conditions again ...

I now have 41.31% of population and 46.92% of land area, so I gain 2% population that turn (relative, of course) but less than 1% of land.

Louis has dropped behind George in power and score.

IT:

Artillery attacks outside Orleans and is killed. Marine attack gunship near Cherbourg and wins.

Turn 2 -- 1927 AD

Nottingham: Modern Armor > Modern Armor
Oxford: Modern Armor > Modern Armor
Delhi: Stealth Bomber > Hermitage (losing the cultural battle)
Liverpool: Stealth Bomber > Stealth Bomber
Elephantine: Gunship > Gunship
Murcia: Theatre > Lighthouse

Dag, a Zulu revolt is taking place in Bulawayo.

Ok, first things first: Cherbourg. It now has a Marine and Mech Inf (former Infantry recovering). Bombers make a run. Mech Inf loses to Marine (again with 70+% odds! ). Mech Inf defeats Mech Inf. Mech Inf defeats Marine ...

[CHERBOURG FALLS]

I keep it. Can't move against Dijon yet so I don't.

Vittoria, hmmm. Vittoria has a Marine and 2 Mech Infs guarding it. I almost wonder if I'm supposed to sacrifice the stack to see if I can take it. 3 Artys bombard. One attacks/retreats, causing collateral damage. One dies attacking. Another attacks/retreats causing collateral damage. Artillery kills Marine. Artillery kills Mech. Artillery kills Mech ...

[VITTORIA FALLS]

Are you kidding me?!? Arty Stack 1, Louis 0. I raze it.

I airbomb the hell out of Rheims. Modern Armor beats Mech Inf. Modern Armor beats Marine. Modern Armor beats Marine. Modern Armor beats Mech. Inf. Modern Armor beats Tank. Modern Armor beats Tank. Modern Armor defeats Machine Gun. Modern Armor defeats SAM Infantry ...

[RHEIMS FALLS]

I raze it.

Gunship kills a SAM guarding a horse. Spy takes out Aluminum mine. A lot of rebasing of planes.

Check out the ol' Victory conditions. 43.08% of population, 46.83% of land area. Heck, I lost some land! :crazyeye:

IT:

French Artillery killed by Mech Inf. Battleship killed by French Destroyer. French Mech Inf dies attacking our Mech Inf. Mech Inf loses to a French Mech Inf.

Turn 3 -- 1928 AD

Warwick: Stealth Bomber > Barracks
Newcastle: Mech Inf > Modern Armor
Cordoba: Mech Inf > Gunship

Louis has landed a small Mech Inf x2/Settler/Worker group. How cute. I stealth bomb it a bit, then Gunship kills Mech Inf, Gunship kills Mech Inf, settler/worker apparently don't survive the attack.

Bomb Orleans. Modern Armer kills Mech Inf. Modern Armor kills Marine. Mech Inf loses to Machine Gun. Don't continue the attack.

:coffee:

IT:

No counterattack (besides bombing of troops, I'm sure)

Turn 4 -- 1929 AD

London: Modern Armor > Modern Armor
Hastings: Mech Inf > Modern Armor
Canterbury: Stealth Bomber > Aqueduct
Coventry: Mech Inf > Modern Armor
Jaipur: Modern Armor > Modern Armor
uMgung: Modern Armor > Aqueduct

...wait for all the fighter attacks...

Bomb Dijon. Modern Armor loses to Mech Inf. :grr: Mech Inf beats Mech Inf. Mech Inf beats Mech Inf...

[DIJON FALLS]

I raze it. The French threat is gone from this island. I immediately build Brighton to replace it. Time to start moving those troops back to the mainland.

Orleans. Defense to 0%. Blitz the hell out of the troops. Modern Armor defeats Mech Inf. Modern Armor defeats Mech Inf. Modern Armor defeats Mech Inf. Modern Armor defeats Mech Inf. Modern Armor defeats Marine. Modern Armor defeats Machine Gun. Modern Armor defeats SAM. Mech Inf defeats Mech Inf. Mech Inf defeats Artillery....

[ORLEANS FALLS]

It's too big, I have to raze it. The French Nation has been split.

Spy is caught :(

Much troop movement.

IT:

2 Mech Inf and a Gunship are sacrificed by Louis. Sadly, an Artilley kills a Mech Inf damaged by a Gunship.

Turn 5 -- 1930 AD

Canterbury: Aqueduct > Market
Libyan: Stealth Bomber > Settler
Polynesian: Barracks > Modern Armor
Murcia; Lighthouse > Settler

Isabella has broken free from Louis and is now a free state! Ok, let's talk to the shattered remains of Izzy ...

[IZZY CAPITULATES]

I tried to get Refrigeration from her, but no luck. However, she is now ours.

Modern Armor kills the offending Artillery.

Modern Armor kills a SAM sitting on an Iron Mine. Bomber destroys the mine for us, as well as a coal mine.

Gunship kills a SAM sitting on an Iron Mine.

Lot of troop movement.

Ok, I may have done some :smoke: ... I overextended my gunship corps, and there are 4 of them (including a great general) sitting outside of Lyons and thus vulnerable. I bombed the units in Lyons in the hopes that them being injured would discourage an attack ... I guess we'll find out in the interturn.

IT:

Damn, it was as I feared. :smoke: I lost 3 gunships, including the general. We killed a Mech Inf attacking our stack outside of Tours.

Turn 6 -- 1931 AD

York: Mech Inf > Gunship

Ok, the first question that needs to be asked is: do we keep Tours if we take it. On the one hand, it'd be a great staging area for attacking Paris. On the other, it's going to be under immediate cultural pressure until we take Paris. I check the range of the Stealth Bombers, and they can't reach Paris. I do have a settler in the pipeline to complete next turn, I could have another city built in 3 turns that would put the planes in range of Paris...but that's not soon enough (happiness is becoming an increasing issue). We'll have to take Tours.

I start the bombing. MA defeats MechInf. MA defeats MechInf. MechInf defeats MA. MA defeats SAM. MA defeats Artillery. MA defeats Artillery ...

[TOURS FALLS]

We keep it.

Some troop mop-up: Gunship kills an Arty, MechInf kills a MechInf, MechInf kills a MechInf, MA kills an Artillery.

Turtle a bunch of troops in Tours to heal. Lyons is the next target.

IT:

No counterattack.

Turn 7 -- 1932 AD

London: Modern Armor > Gunship
Canterbury: Market > Buddhist Temple
Coventry: Modern Armor > Modern Armor
Libyan: Settler > Theatre
uMgung: Aqueduct > Hindu Temple
Nongoma: Airport > Gunship
Pamplona: Theatre > Lighthouse

Bomb the crap out of Lyons. MA kills Marine. MA kills Mech Inf. MA kills Mech Inf. MA kills Mech Inf. MA kills Marine. MA kills Machine Gun. MA kills SAM. MA kills Arty. MA kills Arty ...

[LYONS FALLS]

I think about it ... but in the end I decide we're better off rebuilding the north ourselves.

Troop mop-up: MA kills SAM.

IT:

Once again, no counterattack.

Turn 8 -- 1933 AD

Nottingham: Modern Armor > Modern Armor
Warwick: Barracks > MechInf
Oxford: Modern Armor > Modern Armor
Liverpool: Stealth Bomber > Stealth Bomber
Bombay: Modern Armor > Modern Armor
Ghuzz: Library > University

Indian Revolt in Madras

Bombing of Paris begins, but is half-hearted since I had to rebase the bombers this turn.

Louis has a giant artillery stack outside of Marseilles! It's just sitting there. I take out 1 of them with a gunship, but there's plenty left.

Kill a wandering SAM, as well as a SAM guarding Oil (only supply?).

IT:

Mech that had killed Oil Sam is killed in counterattack.

Turn 9 -- 1934 AD

London: Gunship > Modern Armor
Hastings: Modern Armor > Modern Armor
Canterbury: Buddhist Temple > Modern Armor
Libyan: Theatre > Airport
Delhi: Hermitage > Modern Armor
Elephantine: Gunship > Modern Armor
uMgung: Hindu Temple > Modern Armor
Nobamba: SAM > Airport
Bulawayo: Forge > Library

Spy took out one of our oil sources.

Bomb the Bejeezus out of Paris.

MA kills MechInf. MA kills Marine. MA kills Marine. MA kills MachineGun. MA kills SAM. MA kills Arty. Mech Inf kills Arty. MA kills Arty. MA kills Arty ...

[PARIS FALLS]

Can you say "We Now Have Pentagon"? I know I can!

Norwich is built.

The Artillery stack has disappeared?

Start moving the ship stack towards Paris in order to prepare for the American Invasion.

IT:

French Artillery kills a Mech Inf. French Battleship sinks my battleship.

Turn 10 -- 1935 AD

Coventry: Modern Armor > Modern Armor

My battleship sinks his battleship. That'll teach him.

Gandhi has completed Apollo.

Road to Rouen:
Bombard with Arty. Sacrifice 1 Arty. Arty kills Arty. Arty kills Arty. Arty kills SAM. Arty kills SAM ...

[ROUEN FALLS]

I raze it.

Bomb the bajeezus out of Besancon. MA defeats Marine and SAM. MA defeats Arty ...

[BESANCON FALLS]

I raze this one too.

Bomb Marseilles. MA kills Marine. MA kills Machine Gun. MA kills SAM. MA kills Arty ..

[MARSEILLES FALLS]

This one too is Razed.

That Arty stack fled to Avignon. Other than that, killing the two cities remaining on the continent should be easy.

If we want to stop worrying about Louis and go after George (needed for the Variant), Louis will accept the following offer:

(Hey look, a picture)

rexa1yj6.jpg

Honestly, we might want to do it. We're very close to the variant, but at the same time, we're in danger of hitting the domination limit. Obviously up for the next player to decide. The troops are in place to hit Louis' 2 cities within the next 2 turns (will need to rebase the bombers/fighters to Norwich first, though).

When I get back later I'll have some more thoughts.

Thoughts from the Server Room:

We're in the low 50% for population and land area. If we make peace with Louis, we probably shouldn't accept capitulation because it'll add to our numbers.

Paris comes out of revolt in 13 turns, so we shouldn't try to win before then.

Getting refrigeration would be good for the movement bonus, but probably not necessary.

I've started collecting some of the troops/bombers in the formerly-Indian territory we control. Essentially we'll want to go two-pronged for our attack. The Bombers can probably reach from Paris, so if we make peace with Louis, I would rebase there.

Gandhi only needs 3-4% population to get out from being Washington's vassal. We might want to be patient and see if Gandhi will get out from GW first, that way we only have to fight one AI. We could build transports in the interim (sorry if I've left some around I could've moved forward, but I was sort of focusing on Louis)

Aye, but those before me did a great job of giving me plenty of weapons to throw at Louis. I don't think I've ever had that many bombers in a game before :crazyeye:

One more thing, I didn't spend money in the last few turns so that the next player can use the gold as he best sees fit for his turnset. That said, I would use it (we don't collect interest)

Great job. Personally, I would execute Louis for the sake of "we yearn to rejoin the motherland" redshirts. We could honestly do it while the bulk of our army ferries over and heals.

Regarding the Artillery stack sent up to the frozen north, they just couldn't keep up with modern warfare, so I sent them all up on a mission to take a city that would otherwise occupy important troops for several turns.

Artillery has little use post bombers, in my opinion. (and that's why I built so many stealth bombers :))

Well that artillery stack took out two cities on its own, so I think it still has a place in the world.

Of course, Louis has his own in Avignon we may need to contend with ...

Louis does have one final island city, so if we want to eliminate him we'll have to take care of that too. It's pretty far away from our cities, sadly.

situation looks good, but we lack transports
we have many airports but not on mainland :
london
york
hasting have one

i put on airport
Canterbury
Coventry
Nottingham
lybian was already on

so i send our 4 transports available in hasting for first wave on new york
while others will use plane to bombay

i make peace with louis (not capitulation)
i doubt we can get him to pleased again, we have "-27, you razed one of our cities" ;)

massive upgrades in former india

1936 french spy caught ! london start building spy to protect ressources
halp of the bomber go in paris, others in bombay

1939 washington complete apollo. i'm half sorry for him ;)

1942 it is time to drop some anvils on poor washington
Sirian doctrine in New-york. we lose a single MA out of 16
snobe-newyork.jpg

Seattle heavy bombing. we lose a single MA there too
snobe_seattle.jpg

1943 mini D-day in barcelona. dispatched
few counterattacks
snobe_1943.jpg

snobe-1943-2.jpg

Atlanta is razed
snobe-atlanta.jpg

1944 Washington fall
snobe-washington.jpg

1945 boston is razed
snobe-boston.jpg

philadelphia is razed
snobe-philadelphia.jpg

notes : must be checked but we should be ok with the SG objectives. we have 2 cities in mainland
to found (settler + protection positioned)
We are however so near the dom level, i'm very wary to take other cities

situation 58.92% of land dont know what it will do when borders pop
New york out of revolt in 12 turns

http://forums.civfanatics.com/uploads/109490/SunNeverSets_AD-1945.CivWarlordsSave

Okay, it looks like the next player will just need to press enter a few turns and not lose any cities. However, please do confirm our globe-spannity-ness. If necessary whip/draft a bunch of pop, walk out of a city. Whatever. We must first have every land longitude.

Lukep - just played
Stuge - up
Imhotep - on deck, but don't count on getting a turn.
