Since this is my third (I think) post on these forums I figure I'll give a little introduction before I get into what I want to do.

Big fan of Civilization and especially Civilization V. I'd say my favorite civilization is probably Rome although it really depends at what type of game I'm looking at. I've been getting into Marathon games recently and starting to enjoy Germany. Which leads into what I'm doing here.

I'm playing a King Huge Marathon game on Continents Plus as Germany.

I've also disable building of the Manhattan project being that there is no solid defense against nuclear weapons now and I like Future Era combat and nukes sort of ruin that a bit for me.

Was inspired by this thread and am hoping to put something out like it, especially the "history-book" style of writing.

Starting from the beginning of the game here so it could be a bit before things get super interesting. Let me know what you think, even if it's "this sux, u suk" :p

Anyways, into it.
Spoiler :

A people calling themselves the Germans created their first settlements on riverbanks near the then-important deposits of stone. It is believed that their leader Bismarck also chose this spot due to its proximity to the Ocean and the riches it provides.
2013-03-26_00003_zpsd58a5e97.jpg

A group of German warriors sent out to explore and secure the region had come across what appears to be remnants of an ancient civilization, the first found by the German people. Ruins of peoples past were spread out wide around the world and often contained secrets that furthered the success of empires.
2013-03-26_00004_zps8d3d58ea.jpg

First contact was made between the Germans and another , the Aztecs. These were the first people outside of Berlin that the Germans had encountered and while he spoke in a strange tongue and rarely wore a shirt, the Aztec leader Montezuma seemed friendly enough. This is probably because he surprisingly did not covet German lands.
2013-03-26_00009_zps00f1ae13.jpg

The Aztecs were not the only people out there though, roaming barbarians littered the wilderness and threatened the safety of the German people.
2013-03-26_00010_zpsf0567103.jpg

(As you can see my Warrior became a Spearfighter, I will be working to try and get more and better screenshots next post, not quite sure what parts you all want to see though, so let me know)
Bismarck knew that his people would not be safe is those savages could be allowed to live. He took action and called for an attack on their camp.
2013-03-26_00013_zpsd8178606.jpg

With the day won, the German warriors were able to continue their exploration of ancient ruins.
2013-03-26_00015_zps7391a2e3.jpg

As time passed a growing sense of respect for child birth and parenthood began to emerge and people started to have more children, causing the German population to more quickly increase. These beliefs have continued through to today.
2013-03-26_00016_zps7cb67e85.jpg

The Germans later encounter another people, the Austrians. Led by Maria Theresa, it appeared to Bismarck that they could prove to be valuable allies or great foes in the years to come.
2013-03-26_00017_zps5b2ac95f.jpg

While purging the barbarians from the continent, it appears that some of the savages had learned the error of their ways and submitted to Bismarck's rule.
2013-03-26_00020_zps5462626c.jpg

With the assistance of these "Noble Savages", Bismarck was able to map out the northern region of the continent.
2013-03-26_00024_zps6968521b.jpg

Bismarck encountered Sejong of Korean people after Korean travelers visited Berlin.
2013-03-26_00027_zpsfa64e6e1.jpg

Bismarck was also famed for his frugal spending and the German people are believed to have been the richest in the world during the early years of his reign.
2013-03-26_00028_zpsc3e0c2c1.jpg

And that does it for now. I know it could use a little work such as more screenshots but its hard to make things interesting this early in the game. Any ideas and criticisms are welcome.

-Jake

EDIT: Mistakes were made with the images, going to fix soon.
EDIT II: Mistakes were unmade.
EDIT III: Added Some Game Info

Was inspired by this thread and am hoping to put something out like it, especially the "history-book" style of writing.

Oh, thanks. I'm flattered. :D

One idea I think might make things like this seem more like a history book would be putting certain topics together, such as wartime events, peacetime events, and foreign relations and such, if you wanted to try that. I've been trying to implement that in my thread lately. But it's up to you.

Good start anyway. I'll be following.

I think grouping might be a good idea. Completely Chronological doesn't have a very good flow it seems. I'll probably be playing some more of this game tonight so maybe I'll put another post out tomorrow.

It's not sad to play Civ all of Spring Break right :p

even though its one pic i'm wondering where this will go off too. Also how did you disable the manhattan project?

History of the German Empire: The Early Years

Domestic Affairs
Spoiler :

Sensing the need to further develop the land (and sea) Bismarck used German treasury funds to secure the workforce needed to ensure the prosperity of Berlin.
2013-03-26_00047_zpsc8456e30.jpg

The whales being brought to the market worked to uplift the spirits of the German people and helped to increase Bismarck's funds.
2013-03-26_00049_zps9663f2f6.jpg

Not long after securing whales, Bismarck soon hired workers to harvest pearls from a source near Berlin as well.
2013-03-26_00065_zps24600927.jpg

Bismarck continued to impose a culture of military respect upon the German people. People cheered in the streets when honored with a military presence in the city.
2013-03-26_00068_zps35585452.jpg

The continued support of the military came in handy with the trials Bismarck would face abroad.

Foreign Affairs
Spoiler :

Other peoples were still wishing to have closer ties with the German people and Bismarck was willing to oblige for the most part; he refused unfair trades however and denied any embassies until the German people would be ready to set up their own.
2013-03-26_00030_zpsc2932446.jpg

Austria talked about a much more reasonable agreement. Theresa requested a declaration of friendship and Bismarck accepted.
2013-03-26_00031_zps9c9ccbbf.jpg

Theresa next had a request for German funds to assist the Austrian economy. Bismarck refused to weaken the German economy to prop up another though.
2013-03-26_00051_zpsf9997062.jpg

Bismarck could not bring himself to declare war on another nation with Theresa however. Especially one in a faraway land that the German people had not interests in.
2013-03-26_00032_zpsf0a0c053.jpg

After his talks with Sejong and Theresa, Bismarck set his sights on talks with Montezuma and took note of another Aztec settlement.
2013-03-26_00038_zps38d9f40e.jpg

Montezuma also requested a declaration of friendship, it is believed now he was afraid of German might at the time even though Bismarck had no intentions of being aggressive.
2013-03-26_00042_zps26e63bff.jpg

While Montezuma did fear Bismarck, it appears that he stilled wished to upset the order of things and built an Aztec settlement near Berlin.
2013-03-26_00070_zpsc260408c.jpg

This infuriated Bismarck and first led to him denouncing Montezuma for his aggressive expansion, only a preview of things to come.
2013-03-26_00073_zps4f5aad77.jpg
[/IMG]
Around this time Bismarck also met the Incan people. Led by Pachacuti "the Great". There's a story about how Bismarck liked to call him "Pachacuti the Dick". No one is certain of the validity of this however.
newreply.php

German travelers came upon a city called Lhasa and it appears the people of the city held a great fear of German power.
2013-03-26_00053_zps9546c24c.jpg

The city of Antwerp was also found near Lhasa. These people were much stronger than those of Lhasa and understood that Bismarck could mean no harm to them.

Military Affairs
Spoiler :

German troops had continued success cleansing the continent of barbaric scum and converting to the side of civilization.
2013-03-26_00033_zps403b4b10.jpg

2013-03-26_00037_zps3b5f6421.jpg

German troops also were able to scout the southern part of the continent. Finding it devoid of any possible threats to Bismarck's sovereignty.
2013-03-26_00058_zps77ca32d6.jpg

Fighting barbarians for hundreds of years gave Bismarck and the numbers and experience to lead a strike against Montezuma for his thoughtless expansion. The siege of Tlatelolco was the first great German military campaign.

2013-03-26_00074_zpsf9264951.jpg

2013-03-26_00079_zps6758787a.jpg

And with that the city was taken.
2013-03-26_00082_zpsbeab0c21.jpg

To prove a point about his seriousness in these matters, Bismarck had the city burned to the ground.
2013-03-26_00083_zps96bcf039.jpg

After his troops were rejuvenated and rested he planned for the next offensive against the Aztecs. The German people were not to be trifled with.
2013-03-26_00084_zps78f30de0.jpg

The war against the Aztecs began a shift from a peaceful Germany seeking only prosperity and security to an empire that sought power beyond compare.

Bam. Let me know what you think.

Good update, there. And I'm not sure if I've ever seen a city state actually display "Afraid" status.

And Maria Theresa asked for a gift when you didn't have a DOF with her? Don't think I've ever seen that either.

And Maria Theresa asked for a gift when you didn't have a DOF with her? Don't think I've ever seen that either.

In this scenario maybe I did have a DOF before she asked. I might have mixed the order looking at my screenshots. I'll fix that now.

And about City-States. I believe they added this in G&K.

And about City-States. I believe they added this in G&K.

I knew that they could fear your military, but I just didn't recall seeing one actually displaying the afraid status.

Anyway, nice story so far!

Domestic Affairs:
Spoiler :

With the discovery of Optics by the hard-working scientists in Berlin, the German people soon found themselves thrust into the Classical Era; leaps and bounds ahead of most all other peoples.
2013-03-27_00003_zps0c7bff6a.jpg

The construction of the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus also completed during this period. It greatly increased the profitability of quarrying.
2013-03-27_00008_zps20a79ec8.jpg

Bismarck realized that only one settlement could not compete with the rest of the world and begun the necessary preparations for creating another in the years to come.
2013-03-27_00009_zpsf6deccae.jpg

With the necessary improvements made to the area surrounding Berlin, a work force was sent out to prepare land for a city to be settled there.
2013-03-27_00023_zps8d018de6.jpg

Bismarck continued his focus on the importance of a strong military and began the tradition of a professional army. Making it easier to modernize his forces.
2013-03-27_00027_zps71a29abe.jpg

German settlers sent out to found the first German residence outside of Berlin.
2013-03-27_00029_zpsd7f00fab.jpg

The city of Hamburg founded where Tlatelolco once stood. While the Aztecs were foul scum, they understood the principles of city creation and management.
2013-03-27_00035_zps1e981650.jpg

The first "Golden Age" experienced by the German people. A period of strong economic and cultural growth.
2013-03-27_00053_zps7cda1563.jpg

Shortly after the end of this "Golden Age" Bismarck finally took his focus temporarily off of the military and moved to create a society of free and open people.

Foreign Affairs
Spoiler :

It appears the following the sacking of Tlatelolco that Montezuma was willing to make peace. Considering the concessions they were willing to make, Bismarck assumed (incorrectly as we'll see later) that the Aztecs had learned their lesson and he accepted the treaty.
2013-03-27_00001_zps4fa113c3.jpg

Shortly after signed the peace agreement, Montezuma denounced Bismarck "notifying" the World that he was not to be trusted.
2013-03-27_00005_zpsec31abff.jpg

It was apparent that most of the world did not agree with Montezuma however and saw through his lies.

Bismarck first encountered the Russian people during this period.
2013-03-27_00038_zps1e0d3fb1.jpg

At this time Theresa still held a great desire to attack the Koreans.
2013-03-27_00010_zps1ac5a41e.jpg

And shortly after Bismarck's refusal to join the war, Theresa attacked Korea anyways.
2013-03-27_00026_zps1c9b4fdf.jpg

Shown is the Korean-Austrian Front.
2013-03-27_00028_zps23fe6cea.jpg

As you can see, the Austrians took the city of Daegu fairly quickly.
2013-03-27_00028_zps23fe6cea.jpg

Sejong and Theresa made peace shortly after however. Most likely due in part to their shared hatred of Catherine.

Siamese travelers visiting the German Empire notified Bismarck of Siam.
2013-03-27_00052_zpsd874c89f.jpg

Bismarck soon swapped embassies with Siam and learned that the Incan and Siamese people are quite close together.

Military Affairs
Spoiler :

With the end of the Aztec-German War, Bismarck saw fit to move his forces into defensive positions.
2013-03-27_00022_zpsa2b7a2e5.jpg

With very few forces on the border, Montezuma postured himself very aggressively.
2013-03-27_00055_zps2b705c76.jpg

Realizing that Montezuma was most likely preparing to strike once more, Bismarck moved troops into a defensive line between German and Aztec territories.
2013-03-27_00066_zps2a7f985e.jpg

Probably in an effort to calm Bismarck's fears, Montezuma wanted to swap embassies. Bismarck warily accepted.
2013-03-27_00086_zps5c1ee146.jpg

In the end however Montezuma continued to move troops to the border and it turned out Bismarck was right to be suspicious.
2013-03-27_00093_zps560136f1.jpg

Ignored some simple things like swapping embassies and some DoFs.

Some interesting stuff going on now.

Montezuma needs to calm down. Not quite sure how much I'm going to punish him yet.

And I just learned the image limit for posts; 30.

Oh Monty, Monty. :nono:

Yeah, that 30 image limit has got me before, too.

A short one this time. I was given a decent stopping point not too long after starting as you guys will see.
Domestic Affairs
Spoiler :

Even with the Pyramids on the way and along with it the training of several workers to assist in the development of the terrain, Bismarck understood the need for an even larger workforce to improve the productivity and livelihoods of Germans.
2013-03-28_00016_zpsffb18a72.jpg

Not too long after expanding the workforce, the construction of the Pyramids completed in Berlin. Further increasing the laboring population.

Foreign Affairs
Spoiler :

The German and Aztec peoples were not the only ones on the continent engaged in hostilities. It appears that the Inca had numerous problems with the Siamese at this time. Most likely due to their proximity.
2013-03-28_00010_zps98220762.jpg

It appears that Pachacuti wanted German funds if he couldn't have direct German support for a war. Bismarck still declined his request.

Military Affairs
Spoiler :

The German and Aztec armies marched to face off in the land between Hamburg and Teotihuacan. The battle would surely be bloody and many lives would be claimed.
2013-03-27_00094_zpseab6e0e3.jpg

Both sides suffering heavy casualties, German warriors continued pushing the Aztec line.
2013-03-28_00013_zpsca41987d.jpg

2013-03-28_00015_zps12632fd5.jpg

In the end only one German battle group lived to tell the tale. They advanced to future victories waiting for reinforcements.
2013-03-28_00021_zps1b82939a.jpg

After waiting for more men to arrive, Bismarck was once again able to push against the Aztecs.
2013-03-28_00027_zpsa6571f5b.jpg

The losses on both sides were mounting though and Bismarck knew he could not defeat the Aztecs. Montezuma believed his position to be quite fragile however, and sued for peace. Bismarck accepted these terms knowing that he would need to be much more vigilant as to what his neighbor was doing.
2013-03-28_00029_zps18d9b1c7.jpg

Looks good, and interesting. Can't wait to see the Panzers and Landschnects start tearing the map up

Welp was playing some more tonight. Something tells me we're going to see a recurring theme throughout the whole game until Montezuma is gone.

I'll make another post either real late tonight or tomorrow. Until then! On to a multiplayer game!

Some leaders(like Monty)just sometimes don't know what's good for 'em.

Domestic Affairs
Spoiler :

At this time Bismarck was also working to further expand the German Republic. He began the training of another settler group.
2013-03-28_00036_zps4608c835.jpg

This settler group would go on to found the city of Munich.
2013-03-28_00065_zpsd1587823.jpg

Bismarck utilized his massive workforce to quickly construct roads between German cities. Generating much revenue from trade between the German peoples.

Foreign Affairs
Spoiler :

It appears that while Bismarck and Montezuma were able to walk the path of peace, many other leaders found offense in the Aztecs mere existence. Russia, Siam, Austria, and Korea all declared war on Montezuma.
2013-03-28_00033_zps81d6d257.jpg

The Inca joined in on the war against Montezuma shortly afterwards.
2013-03-28_00034_zps97b59a97.jpg

Here we can see Aztec troops engaging a group of Siamese warriors.
2013-03-28_00037_zpsf693334e.jpg

Travelers across the sea told stories of on a faraway continent that is conquering the other peoples of that land. Nobody can confirm these ramblings however.
2013-03-28_00043_zps3a991817.jpg

A single Siamese traveler checking out German land.
2013-03-28_00046_zps2123f1f9.jpg

It is possible that this traveler was looking to escape new thoughts and ideas emerging back in Siam.
2013-03-28_00050_zps47d9f83a.jpg

And he would eventually go on to found a one-man city.
2013-03-28_00061_zps3141faf4.jpg

Back on the Aztec front, they were expanding to another city at this time. Naming it "Tlatelolco" after the one Bismarck sacked many years ago.
2013-03-28_00052_zps9cc26463.jpg

Montezuma once again requested embassies be set up in Berlin and Tenochtitlan. Bismarck accepted under the assumption that Montezuma would be to0 pre-occupied with wars against all the other powers to show any aggression towards Germany.
2013-03-28_00053_zps954c5bcc.jpg

The Aztecs did appear to be friendly to the Germans during this period as well. It was hoped that hostilities could finally be completely put to be between Berlin and Tenochtitlan.
2013-03-28_00060_zps7556af3a.jpg

After further talks with the Germans there were more stories about another power being wiped out in a faraway land.
2013-03-28_00073_zpsb0ed4643.jpg

With stories about the strength of foreign powers, the nations Germany knew of sought peace with each other and soon began something of an era of peace for the continent.
2013-03-28_00074_zps6bd8aa2e.jpg

This peace was not lasting however, Korea wanted assistance attacking Theresa only a short time after a declaration of friendship between the Austrian and Korean peoples.
2013-03-28_00075_zps28032e2d.jpg

Theresa felt the same way about Korea.
2013-03-28_00076_zps5d2e0209.jpg
'
Catherine appears to have taken the side of the Koreans in this matter.
2013-03-28_00079_zps9136072f.jpg

Theresa finally took the initiative and declared war on Sejong.
2013-03-28_00081_zps95e96b56.jpg

Catherine soon joined in on the war on the side of the Koreans.
2013-03-28_00103_zps9d7bf3b0.jpg

Siam could not stop itself from getting involved either.
2013-03-28_00105_zps90e9f5bb.jpg

Face with an overwhelming challenge, Austria faced defeat and Salzburg fell to Sejong. A peace was not yet signed and Vienna was most likely the next target.

Military Affairs
Spoiler :

With the break in military hostilities between the Aztecs and the Germans Bismarck positioned his troops in a passive but prepared position in the borderlands.
2013-03-28_00032_zpscf55adac.jpg

With his military hardware aging, Bismarck began to expend some funds on modernizing his military. Equipping his warriors with advanced iron armor and swords was the first step.
2013-03-28_00063_zps94e0474d.jpg

Shortly appear Bismarck began the process of modernization, Montezuma once again viciously declared war on Germany.
2013-03-28_00080_zps1997efb4.jpg

The Aztec troops were countless in the number. They moved as a swarm into the German territory.
2013-03-28_00085_zpsed098b60.jpg

The German soldiers held off as long as they could; fighting valiantly for the lives of their families back home. The defending general was captured and killed. Leaving the German cities essentially defenseless.
2013-03-28_00096_zpsb32cfa74.jpg

All that stood to prevent utter defeat were a handful of German archers and horsemen.
2013-03-28_00103_zps9d7bf3b0.jpg

Against insurmountable odds, the German defenders were able to push back and hold off the Aztec aggressors.
2013-03-28_00107_zps5b64a01d.jpg

Montezuma knew his forces were not enough to strike down the mighty German people. He accepted a peace deal presented by Bismarck.

Good grief, Monty just doesn't want to stop.

Good update, and good job holding out.

Good grief, Monty just doesn't want to stop.

Yeah I'm going to either have to kill him or build an army so massive even he knows not to mess with me.

It was definitely a bit of a challenge holding it. I was caught so off guard by the number of troops he had.
