The Trojan Horse

well, actually i think it make sense that units with hidden nationality get pounded by every civ... the problem in this case is that if the units are inside the horse they should be invisible... if not, what's the horse for??

As have been said, it's a bug.
I guess it's basically the same bug that makes pirates-and Black Wind able to attack units in cities!

has anybody else tried using the Trojan Horse like I do?

you guys make it sound like it's useless, but i beeline for it, it gives a huge bonus for the first turn of war

I doubt they really tried it, since most think it's a hidden nationality unit.

I like your strategy and may try it in the future, however, IMO, the difficult thing is getting it from point A to point B without it getting killed by a barb unit, for example. Then, in addition to losing the White Elephant, I mean Trojan Horse, you lost the units inside as well.

Well.. erhm... you don't need Trojan Horse to travel into barbarian (neutral) lands. What about you escort it ? If the units it's supposed to carry are stronger, then they can defend it on open lands, if they are weaker (like missionaries) then it can actually serve as a protection.

Its not really relavent here, but I thought I'd complain about losing so many hidden nationality units to my (often permanent) allies. When I put one on auto explore, it seems to seek out allies to attack. When I try to move peaceable through an ally's territory to fight a neutral civ, they rarely get far. Could the automation button be broken down into one where a unit avoids combt and one where it seeks it?

I think it make sense this way, if a unit with hidden nationilty enters your territory, it is completely justifiable to consider this unit as a dangerous pirate, and destroy it... but exactly then is when the trojan horse could become very interesting, because the units inside the horse are invisible, and the civs that see the horse don't take it as a threat, so you can move your horse freely to the place you want to attack, and then let the bad guys inside the horse do the dirty job ;)

The same way, if the AI gets the horse, and you see it roaming on your territory, you must be alert to see if it is planning to attack you, or maybe it is just passing by to attack some other civ, which luckily is your enemy too.
