To me, German and Russian sound the best whereas Spanish sounds the worst.

English from Great Britain is one of my preferred languages. Portuguese, French and German stand with it. Sincerely, I dislike vietnamese, american english and chinese. Chinese makes me fell confused a lot... American english, too. It really sounds funny when a guy from southern USA speaks.

French:

Bien le bonjour, monsieur! Je suis a votre service! Well, I must have made a mistake somewhere, but okay. You french from the CFC understood it.

Herr Bäumer hat ein Pizza gegessen basic German.

Você sabe do que eu estou falando! Nossos bons deputados cobram propinas de donos de restaurante e saem andando como se fossem os donos da verdade That's brazillian portuguese.

most beautiful: English (uk), latin, german
ugliest: Arabic, french (too nasal-guttral). a close 3rd will be russian.

the weirdest: chinese and japanese (thank you cinema for my part-time understanding of these languages)

Like: Swedish, Italian and Spanish.

Dislike: Danish.

And what should I vote when you put Swedish and Danish in the same category?!?

:shakehead

I always loathed the sound of germanic languages (Dutch and German, so), they sound harsh and unmelodic.
Samely, Arabic is guttural and rough, and have a tone which sounds like the person is insulting you.

So these three gets the vote for "most ugly languages".

greek could be an option too, afterall you already speak some of it in other languages, and sometimes almost identical even in pronounciation (eg ethos) ;)

I like Nihon, but I hate the butchering the Americans have done to the english language. "Dubya"... *shudder* just the thought of the pronunciation gives me nightmares. :(

Oh, I am sorry, I had to put some together and I thought Dansk and Svenska were pretty alike (albeit singier in Sweden)
Perhaps is was Dansk and Norsk

Sorry about this :(

OK, I forgive you at least.:)

But it's Swedish and Norwegian that are most similar in pronunciation. They both share what's sometimes called the double stress. Maybe non-Scandinavians might confuse them?

Swedish and Danish are a bit closer in grammatical structure, but Danish is heavily diphtongated, with throaty rolling r's and stuff and this pronunciation where they seem to speak on a sharp exhale, kind of a "pushing" the words out. A bit like the French of Scandinavia I'd say.
It's hard to follow, whatever the Danes say.;) (I mention this as someone who as often been given the thankless task of explaining to Swedish speaking Finns what the Danes just said.)

(And in reality the linguistic situation in Scandinavia is infinately more complex. :crazyeye:)

...basically, i hate "taiwanese" especially if those taiwan ppl are speaking it, they tends to mix Minan "hokkien" dialect and when they cannot find the word, they will mix in some Mandarin....
Eh? "Tai-Gi" (Taiwanese) IS Hokkien, only with different accents and a few Japanese terms thrown in. And there really are some terms that are easier to express in Mandarin. I know because I speak the language too. It seems... warmer compared to Mandarin, which seems exceedingly formal.

Nothing beats Cantonese though, for arguing. :goodjob:

On topic: I don't particularly dislike any language. It's not very polite to express any opinion on the matter since you are 100% bound to offend at least someone...

Even with regards "Singlish" and "Taglish", which a lot of people hate. :D

English (uk) isn't a language - do you mean Cockney? Scouse? Yorkshire? Queens English or what?

BBC English, the English foreigners hear the most ;)
Generalizing was necessary however, I couldn't split my language up in Dutch, Flemish, West Flemish and Limburgian either, so I only post Dutch ... the Dutch you know or heard, probably standard Amsterdam Dutch though.

Finnish, because it's plain ugly,Danish, because of all the rolled r:s and French,
because it sounds too much like Danish :P

In other words, Swedes don't like their neighbors ;)
Or they have the same love-hate relationship we Flemish have with the Dutch :)

I like Swedish and Norweigan for at least trying to speak right.

Dont care, i found that hokkien sounds very rude. hate it when i heard ppl speaking it, normally, i dont even reply back, unless they are elderly (which i forgive them)

btw, i do know how to speak a little also...

I think it's an unfair poll. Not only are "Beautiful" and "Ugly"
in the ears of the listeners, but any language is going to sound
worse when spoken by someone screeching with rage, and
better when spoken by someone drowning in hormones...

Nah, mostly the Swedes ignore them, which pisses them off even more. ;)

Danes and Norwegians seem quite able to unite in their common dislike of Swedes though.:p
