I can't belive that you missed this aircraft:
The Australian CA 15
It had superior performance to the P-51 D Mustang, and was the last propeller driven fighter aircraft developed from scratch by a Western nation (making it by default the 'ultimate' prop driven fighter

)
Sadly, the CA-15 arrived to late to enter service, and the Australian government settled on the Mustang as they were cheaper and quicker to acquire.
CA 15 Performance: Max speed, 448 mph at 26,400 ft. Rate of climb, 4,900 ft/min. Service ceiling, 39,000 ft. Range, 2,540 miles at 5,000 ft.
Mustang Peformance Max speed, 437 mph at 25,000 ft. Climb, 13 mins/30,000 ft. Service ceiling 41,900 ft. Range, 950 miles normal/1,7000 miles max.
