[GS] Theory: that Corsair isn’t Ottoman

So I somehow found myself thinking about the alleged Sweden Civ.

How many of you know about archipelago frigates, also called Turuma? They look a lot like this. And that Corsair ship we’ve seen shots of looks a ton like it. The sails are kin of dark, yes, but if you look closely it looks like that’s just the sun/shadows and that the sails look a lot like this. And this pic’s stern looks incredibly like the stern on the unknown “corsair”. The sails look very similar, the bow is a bit long, but the colors are large very similar to this picture.

I think it’s the Swedish unique unit, the turuma. Thoughts?

Well Sweden had a large archipelago fleet at one point, they took part in the biggest naval battle fought on the Baltic sea, Second battle of Svensksund https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Svensksund

But the pictures of corsairs of barbary look very convincing too..

Personally I think that will be a new general unit for the Raider line of ships.

You're stretching. The curved masts, the extra tail, the longer bowsprit. That is very clearly more Mediterranean/Middle East.

The Maori regular ships, units on water look graphically different. I think it's a possibility that the Xebec might be graphical updates to Civs on located by the Mediterranean Sea like the upcoming Ottomans and Phoenicians.
If not my vote goes toward a generic medieval raider unit.

Maybe? But there are enough similarities to give me a bit of pause at least

That could be also a new skin for Barbarian ships during Middle Ages and Renaissance.

That was my first initial thought as well, because of the black sails. There are a lot of options of what it could be.
It just probably isn't an Ottoman or Sweden UU.

I mean, y'all are probably right on looking at it further. The similarities presented another idea though. It does still look pretty middle eastern (so if this for some reason is the Swedish ship, it would need some art adjustments! )

I don't think this would be a unique that would fit the design of Sweden all to much, so I dunno about this one chief.

I agree that the boat isn't Ottoman. The Ottomans already have two more obvious UUs (the Jannissary and the Sipahi) and the Xebec isn't even a specifically Ottoman type of ship anyway. I think it's a new unit entirely, a precursor to the Privateer. Personally, I have no idea what UUs Sweden could get besides the two they got in Civ 5, and I don't think it's impossible they get a ship UU, but I don't think the design of the leaked boat matches enough with that of a Turuma either way. It's a Xebec until proven otherwise, I'm afraid.
