True. That shouldn't be too difficult to fix.

the other one is simply a picture of a single Hindu God (i think, the pic is so small I couldn't even make it out...) the posted pic is universally accepted as the icon of Hinduism (as there are also monothiestic and athiestic sects to the religion that don't use the "polytheism")

What's wrong with this symbol?
I am not getting it. Someone please help..

They put a picture of a Hindu god (ganesha I believe, the pic I saw was way to small for me to recognize, does any one have a large version of it?) as the Hindu symbol rather than using the universal Hindu om.

Great. Now everyone's going to be offering the hindu civs a peanut (/Simpsons reference)

Seriously, it sounds like your symbol would be better. This just illustrates yet one more reason (to avoid any faux-paus like this one) why it would be better to have "generic" religions in the game, rather than RL ones.

Actually the Buddhist symbol is better with the wheel, the "kala chakra" but a Buddha is still decently accurate for Buddhism (although Buddha statues only appeared 200 years after his death), but anyway, It is better to represent a religion with a symbol and such rather than a specific god or person....

Maybe not if you put the four dots in it as well. ;)

Sure, it's controversial, but it is the older of the two symbols, and -- meh -- personal preference I guess.

If you go to Bahai houses of worship -- including the North American one in the Chicago suburbs -- they'll use the Swastika as the symbol for Hinduism (with the Crescent, Star of David, The Wheel, and the Cross also adorning the walls). You can see it here -- it's clearly seen below the Star of David.

The lotus could be used for Buddhism. The Om (character mentioned by Civilleader) seems a more appopriate choice for Hinduism because the Swastika is a symbol of not just the Hindus, but the Buddhists and the Jainists as well.

The Swastik seems to be a symbol shared by all Indo-European cultures pre-christianity. Even the Samnites used the Swastik.

I'm not sure that using the swastica is such a bad idea, as Hinduism does cover rather a large ground, and is more akin to a tree with many branches than a high rise building with only one direction.

IIRC the swastika the buddhists, etc use is a mirror image of the swastika that nazis used. though I also was shocked when I first saw that, but then I saw there is a dfference.

No its far too touchy of a symbol, which is a shame since its actually one of my favouite ancient symbols because of its symmetry and form, so perfect.

The om is far less politically charged.

Let's face it, the swastika is an ancient and universal figure representing many good things, but to most people (including potential Civ-buyers) it has been corrupted to such a degree that most people will sacrifice accuracy to avoid controversy.
