Things I learned about the science of warfare through Civilization IV

UN resolutions are always effective. No one would sign a non-proliferation treaty and then secretly continue to make nukes. If they intend to defy the UN, they will always do it openly.

After signing the non-proliferation treaty, no one minds me keeping and using the dozens of nukes I already had. They all agree that a deal is a deal and don't start making nukes themselves to get back at me.

It takes hundreds of years for troops to walk across the continent, but they can communicate with their leader instantaneously. This is because they all carry video phones. When soldiers of different civilizations meet, they exchange their leaders phone numbers to allow for video conferencing.

If a lion sees a guy with a club standing near a flock of sheep, it will go after the guy with the club to keep from getting wool in its teeth.

And that sole archer completely determines how citizens feel about their safety.
Yes, even when war is being fought with tanks and airplanes, a single band of bare-chested guys with clubs or a group of ancient-era archers will immediately make the citizens of an entire city feel safe from enemy military.

When one country conquers a certain percentage of the world or destroys all the others, that country wins the game and the world ends immediately.

I've always thought of outdated units as (much) lighter versions of modern units. For example, a Warrior in the age of Mech Inf is just infantry without heavy weapons support. Basically all they have is small arms. The upgrade process just gives them better equipment.

And training. The training takes 6 months or one year depending on how advanced the world is. But mine always was a warrior with a club or a stone age archer makes them feel safe. The gunship doesn't. That's because they feel the gunship moves too quickly and will abandon them but the warrior is slow enough that they can force him to stay.

I'm surprized that one hasn't been said yet...

Every time another civilization finishes a World Wonder before you do, an alchemist shows up to melt your unfinished Wonder into gold.

Workers are impervious to aircraft.

So is everything and everyone in a city except the walls, castle, and soldiers.

Stonehenge is absolutely guaranteed to be entirely unaffected by nukes.

So the Celts constructed a perfect bomb shelter thousands of years ago. Quite an accomplishment.

Haha! Someone should tell the people that who manage the real life Stonehenge. They won't let tourists walk up to the stones and touch them for fear of damage.

The Byzantines did not watch plays in theatres; instead, they watched plays at the hippodrome (a chariot racing facility). Because of this, plays were often re-written to include at least one chariot race, often to solve the plot. In addition, people would be especially amused if horses were available in the city, since they would often be used as actors ("O, that I were a glove upon that hand, that I might touch that cheek!" "Neigh!")

I'm pretty sure animals not entering your borders represents the fact that people are living there, but hey, I guess there's no reason that should stop them... :D
