In Civ IV, if you settle a Great Person inside a city as a Great Specialist, he or she is rendered immortal. (unless the city is razed)

Can't believe this hasn't been mentioned yet:
Modern cities feel protected by a loinclothed warrior wielding a club. They demand military protection if the only unit protecting the city is a gunship. This is because gunships were constructed without doors so once the horseman was placed in it, he could never leave to patrol the streets.
(It always struck me as weird that a 2 strength warrior makes citizens feel safe, but a 20 strength gunship does not.)
