Lots of good stuff has been taken away. Was Sid in a rush? here's what I miss...

The advisers of different civs, like in civ1

The marching armies when you took a town

The different songs...loved the Mongol National anthem in civ1, man those drums...

some graphic when cities revolt. Loved the marching hippies in civ1

wondermovies....they made the game

things that would be fun thats's new...

more leaders..differ between generals and civilians. Someone on this forum wrote that he would like to see Einstein as a leader. Great idea!

sea structures. Why can't one build plattforms to harvest oil, natural gases etc in the sea?

more options when conducting diplomacy.

bigger effect for taking the capitol. In civ one, this split the nation i two, making one part allied to you, the other your enemy. Great!

Am I wrong? Tell me what you thinlk!

I think you´re right, specially about taking the capitol. I think there should definitely be a consequence when you take the capitol.

Well, I can't say I miss the wonder movies because I didn't watch them more than a couple times. The advisors in Civ II were laughable, and not in a good way... that fat guy yelling in a constipated voice: BUILD... MORE... WALLS!

I'd like to thank you for reminding me of the marching hippies, tho. I hadn't thought of them in ages.

I can't say new music or movies would be something I'd like or dislike, so long as I can turn them off.

It would be cool if a guy could get more out of the ocean tiles. The offshore platform comes so late that it doesn't add much. It might be cool if there was an offshore luxury, but all I can think of is junk like furs or whale oil.

It really would be cool if capturing a capital had a bigger bang, even though it often is a pretty big deal because that's often where the wonders are. I was thinking that it would be interesting if when you capture a capital you had a choice. You could keep it, and that's that, or you could give it back. In return for giving it back you got to automatically negotiate a peace treaty (and the guy who's capital you took couldn't demand anything beyond peace but you could make demands as usual, depending on situation) and also you had the option to force him to have a revolution and change to your government type. It could be a way to force a quick end to an unwanted war, and maybe a good use for paratroops combined with air power. Well a LOT of paratroopers.

More leaders... I bet that Firaxis will come out with more if they do an expansion. I'd like to see villain ones, like Nixon, Saddam, Tojo, guys I'd like to beat up on. I feel bad picking on Joan of Arc, Abe Lincoln, and Gandhi.

There was a thread on civil wars that had cool ideas, but somebody said that if they ever got one they'd just reload until they didn't get it again. Sort of sucked the fun out of the discussion. (Because it was so true, not lame.)

Anyway, my civil war idea was that instead of anarchy, you'd have a chance for a civil war every time you had a revolution. Cities separated from your main continent would have a higher chance of revolting, and you'd have a certain amount of time to recapture them. If you didn't do it in time, they'd become a rival with the same sort of people you have.

I'd also like to see a tactical bomber unit or line of units. They'd be capable of sinking ships or destroying land units, but they'd have a weak attack and be likely to be destroyed in the attack unless you softened the target up with regular bombers/artillery first.

I'd like to see stacked movement and multiplayer if only to make certain people happy so they'd stop complaining. I bet they'd just find something else to complain about, tho.

I'd like it if they released a bunch of miscellaneous unit animations so people could use them in their mods. I'd include fantasy ones, like cyclopses, pegasi, and dragons. I mean, could be fun for a medieval and ancient mod.

I think there are alot of resources that should be included in the game, using the seas. This would also emphesise the advantage of coastal cities.

Early game (harvested by building "fishing fleet"
Purple shell. Historicly this made the fenicians rich.

Salt, from salt seas, of great importance.

Coral, used for jewelry etc

Whalebones, used to be one of the most expensive goods in the middle ages, was thought to be unicorn horns

Late Game
Oil

Natural Gases

Could probably find more with time...

Yeah, you should be able to build colonies on water, like ofshoreplatforms, to harvest natural gas and oil. No road was needed ofcause. But at least 1 habor...

This should stir things up a little....

Would Einstein be a leader for the German civilization or the American?

Einstein - American. He turned his back on the Germans or should I say the Germans turned their backs on him.

I also missed natural disasters like when a volcanoe errupts when you don't have a temple!

From past Civ. editons is *Sentry*

this option let you line up all your people to board a ship the minute it sailed. is there anything like that now -- I can't find an order for it?

this option let you station people in out of the way parts of the empire (no orders during each turn) who would let you know the minute some sneaky civ was up to something.

I have no idea why this was let go in this edition. I want it back NOW!

Ok, the meds are kicking in now. I'll be fine.:crazyeyes

The one thing I really miss in Civ III is being able to rush-build Wonders. You can sort of cheat part of the way, by starting a Palace that you then switch to a Wonder (after discovering the requisite advance). But I think that not being able to rush Wonders in Civ III takes some strategic chioces out of the game -- what would Ramesses think about someone telling him he couldn't hurry up the Pyramids?

Of course, if there is some hack anyone knows about to take care of this problem, I'd be greatful.

Interesting question about Einstein. You could say that he was a "cultural flip" from the Germans to the Americans. On the other hand, Von Braun went from German to American when he was captured by the military.

I like the concept of scientific and cultural leaders, but the rules governing them would be quite complex. You'd wind up with a quite different game than Civ3.

Consider Paul McCartney, for just one example. He grew up in Liverpool, but spent his early musical career in Germany. Then the Beatles made it big, and generated lots of "culture points" for the British. Then they came to America. Both McCartney and Lennon settled in New York. Did that make them American "cultural leaders"?

Or how about Pope John Paul II. No one would question that he's a spiritual leader. But in Civ3 terms, would he be generating benefits for Poland? Or Italy? Or all countries with a large Catholic population? Or only a fraction of the citizens of each country?

These things could be worked out in terms of game mechanics, but once again, you'd have a game that was no longer Civ3.

I liked the wonder movies and music. When I complete a wonder of the world I need something to dance to. I remeber doing the macarena when leo's workshop was complete.

Hell yeah, and also the ability to change building orders from improvements to wonders

The game came out just before the Holiday/Christmas buying season. You BET he was in a rush. That's why there are so many bugs and poorly playtested items such as the dopey AI Advisors.

The only thing I really miss is the casualty screen in the military advisor. :(

More leaders...Einstein came up.

I think Einstein should be German. However, just as you can take over settlers, you should be able to take over civilian leaders. perhaps a spy option, bribe leader, could recruite foreign leaders. Culture should have an impact here.

Interesting to have artists like the beatles to be leaders. I always thought of those guys to be represented by entertainers, but yes, why not? Some kind of SUPER entertainers that could travel your empire. Again, they should be treated like the civilian leaders, being bribable etc...

Now you mention it - yes the "sentry" option is a great leftout! GIVE IT BACK! I often find myself hitting the "s" button, trying to sentry units, but nothing ever happens...lol

I miss the option to check OFF the pop-up text reminding me to build aqueducts. I hate all those constant pop-ups. You have no idea how much I wish I could execute my cultural advisor whenever a wonder gets built and the world changes projects, and he feels the need to inform me... of...every...single...one.

Great point - I've missed the sentry option too and I'm also wondering whether it's possible to have units ready for sailing...

Btw, this is also my first post - hi to you all! I've been checking out the forums for the last couple of weeks and it looks like fun. :D
