I've just got back in to CIV, i love playing as England redcoats=win. I'm used to playing as England mainly Churchill though i'm experainced on victoria and elizabeth(and the innendo(In you end o) is raging). I've been stuck on Noble for some time not daring to move up.
Any tips?
Keep on playing on Prince 'till you can win on it. When you play it, you'll encounter obstacles and problems to which you'll need to find solutions. Just post your issue on this forum and people will come to help you...
Might I suggest starting with the Africa scenario map. To date that's my only prince win.
If you want to move up then just do it. You won't know until you try. It is a bit harder but if you're doing well on noble then it shouldn't take a great deal of adjustment.
I'd second 6k man's advice too. there's nothing wrong with specialising with one civ, but you'll learn more by trying different combinations.
Usually you have to revise your strategies a bit to move up from Noble. Its pretty easy to ignore large parts of the game mechanics and still be succesful on Noble, but once you start climbing up in level, the details matter to a higher degree. The articles in the war academy helps a lot..just make sure you try to learn each concept fully by itself and not try them all at once, which is guaranteed to be confusing .
What I did on Noble to prep for Prince was play fractal maps and let the computer randomly assign a leader to me. That way I was forced to play new strategies I hadn't considered and learn different aspects of the game. I played 8 games like that and won them all hitting each victory condition at least once, so I moved up to Prince and started doing the exact same thing.
Additionally while on Noble I really focused on practicing micro management and my last few games I became so good that I walked all over the AI. I have now played 10 Prince games and won 9 of them. My only loss was my first game where I got stuck in a resource poor (and poor land) area and was shut in early on by my neighbors Shaka, Monty and Genghis. I stuck it out and tried to get a leg up, but I got dogpiled by them all at the same time and they annihilated me!
Random assignments are a fun thing to do--it forces you to think on your feet, and you don't have the ability to select your Civ and your opponents to make sure you have some sort of an advantage.
