Third Colonies PBEM

Huge victories on land and sea!!! The year 1671 will certainly always hold a special place in the hearts of all Dutch and Belgian patriots.

- For the last two years, the flagships of the Dutch Republican Navy, based in Den Haag, have been given explicit orders to NOT engage the French vessels attacking Antwerp. Our intention was to give the French a false sense of security, and the ruse worked perfectly.

At midnight on the 14th of May, 1671, a date which will undoubtedly be a holiday for our citizens in the future, Dutch galleons slipped out of Den Haag and engaged the vulnerable French ships in the North Sea and the Wester Shelde, and destroyed 4 stacked units north of Antwerp, 2 stacked units northwest of the ruins of Bruges, and another 2 stacked units immediately north of Calais.

- The French have blundered equally on land, as our veteran troops found three French demi-culverins just southwest of our fortress near Liege, with absolutely no defensive escort. If these tactics continue to be used by our enemies, they can expect only disaster.

- Dutch-funded privateers have emptied the Spanish colony of Trinidad and slaughtered some French slaves and arquebusiers working on a project east of Port-au-Prince.

We wonder just what France is getting from the Spaniards that she would be willing to accept huge losses like these.

While the Shopkeepers are celebrating their small victory the French army retaliates in conquering Liege. The Dutch may recapture it but this will destroy the city. The Dutch don't understand that in the end they will loose the war. It's not important how many soldiers they kill because they can be replaced but nevertheless the Netherlands are loosing their towns. They loose their production and trading facilities while we can build new troops in our homeland. It hurts more to loose one city than 10 units and should the Dutch continue the rebellion France will be forced to burn the whole Netherlands to the ground. King Louis is very sad about the loss of so many innocent life’s but the Stadtholder has to be blamed for this as he rejected favourable peace terms and really think he can cope with the two strongest world powers. To continue this senseless struggle he even sacrifice the valuable life of his fellow countrymen. But fear not Dutchmen the tyranny of this ruler is over soon and the combined armies of France and Spain will liberate you all.

Signed
King Louis of France

Captured Oporto, delivered Leatherworks to Paris and Limonges.

Moved troops in the Caribbean and Europe.

I will play my turn, after France explains me what a merchantman with a demi-calvurin is doing next to New Haven, and why you blocked the port of New Providence.

I can assure you they are not there to harm you in any way and will be away next turn as for New Providence I'm sorry but I didn't realized I ended my turn blocking your city.

We have absolutely no quarrel with the English and want to continue friendly relations in the future.

The Spanish Monarch would like to reassure the English Monarch that we have no quarrel with you. Im sure it was an honest mistake. Dont make to much of it. And I need to remind you that any quarrel started with the French is also started with the Spanish. :crazyeye:

Sorry, The Overlord, but your explanation was kinda lousy. (how can I know for certain that you are not going to attack me???)

5 French Ships destroyed near Providence and New Haven.
Hit and run attack near Calais kills a Demi-Calvurin.
The walls of Calais and a galleon in Calais were destroyed.
The Spanish also got their share. A galleon near Brest was destroyed. A mining colonist near Santiago Cuba and the Stockaded garrisson of Santiago Cuba was killed.

The Spanish and the French have defied us for a last time. Now is the time for action, now is the time to help our Dutch brothers. Now is the time to destroy once and for all the old monarchies who are threatening the world.
The power of Spain has come to an end.
An alliance between The United Provinces and The United kingdoms of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland exists now.

People, to your arms !!!!!!! :soldier:

Haha you know it was an accident, you would have attacked anyway  I realized you had a secret alliance with Darius as you bothered Con the whole time to peace-talks therefore I decided to side with Con to help him fighting against two guys. Oh one last question just out of curiosity when did you form the alliance, I think you plotted and schemed from the first turn on? Am I right?

But nice reason to go to a war :D Ok will see you in London.

Well, I think we started talking from the third turn or something like that. Guessed good, The Overlord. I indeed gave some hints to you guys.
The plan was to attack you in the next turn, but hey, this was indeed a great opportunity for me, and I had a reason.
But the plan also was, that if Con had made peace, the alliance wasn't needed anymore, so we would have kept it secret, and I would not have attacked you guys.
Anyway, I have a question too. Were you planning on attacking me, or not?

Yeeeha! Thanks Yop, what a great opening turn! :goodjob:

Yes, we were discussing this for quite a while, but I was willing to hold out until he was ready. Another interesting twist, he gifted units while England was neutral. My story about the Dutch ships

was a lie, he gifted them to me that turn and I had to hide it.

Anyway, what will you two do now? Are you going to lose more dozens and dozens of units over one battered city? I don't know why you were willing to lose so much while I was alone, let alone against the two of us. You could have spent all this time fostering trade and improving your colonies instead of throwing so many units into a black hole. Just make peace goddamit! See you in London? Maybe after you've lost 100 units over fifty turns.

A less busy turn than usual:

- Dutch Privateers continue to ravage Spanish outposts in the Caribbean, this time slaughtering Spanish slaves and pikemen northwest of Caracas.

- Liege recaptured of course, and then abandoned as our huge fortress complex in Belgium is easier to defend than the city itself. A group of Musq. a Cheval cavalry was destroyed near the city.

- Hundreds of Spanish Pikemen blownaparte northeast of Calais by our cannon.

Darius thank you, I dont think that was a lie just a good example of counter intelligence. However Im glad you guys finally told us about this because quite Frankly I was beginning to wonder how you were legally doing all this. This explains a lot.

So all out war, this is interesting. I guess you will find out what we are going to do after our next turns.

:D

Of course we will continue till the Republic heathens are exterminated :D

We recaptured Liege and almost wiped out the Dutch fortress garrison, only one Engineer unit is left. You will not hold out for long. Furthermore we destroyed English merchantships in NA and Ireland carrying lots of troops.

We will hold out this war much longer than the Dutch/English will.

!Vive La France!

 What the hell with?

The might of the French Army. Just look at the scenario at the start. The French have a huge army compared to both the Dutch and Great Britain. Thats what Overlord has been trying to tell you. Plus he has a lot more cities so he can produce and replace losses quicker than the Dutch or Great Britain.

Here are the starting units and the French Trade deficet at the start is only 17 Gold. A lot less that the Spanish or Great Britian.

 Obviously I didn't mean what they have altogether, I mean there were no units at all near the city or the fortress.

What about in Rheims or Calais, the Horse units could get there in under one turn or less and still have at least a full turn to attack at Full strenght. There are roads to that stack of French Horses? (or whatever they are) from both cities.:crazyeye:

Maybe...

Even if that were the case though, those units aren't powerful enough to beat fortified vet pikemen in a fortress; it would take three or four to empty the thing down to a colonist.
