The first thing I did after I installed BtS was laod up a game of Final Frontier. Played it to the end as Paradise, Noble, Dense systems, Standard map, with all 8 factions. Some thoughts:
I love the new unit graphics, leaderheads, and everything! I particularly liked how the workers were distributed between planets, it made for some interesting choices. I discovered the best way to proceed at first is to focus on improving the 'capital' planet and the largest planet (that holds the most population) to maximize your investment in hammers. The captial planet tends to be the one that makes the most food, and food is extremely scarce in this mod, so try to get as much as possible. I don't see why anyone would possibly want to whip in this game, population comes so slow.
The AI seemed absolutely unable to get the hang of the planet system. Red Syndicate and the Forge were running around with pop 3-4 systems while I averaged around 12 (18 on my biggest). Syndicate and Forge were the worst; I don't know if they had bad planets, but most everyone else never made it above 10. Syndicate may have been whipping (his favorite civic is Slave State) but I doubt it.
The pirates were annoying, but I guess they're meant to be. There was this big empty space to my northwest full of rad and nebula where they kept spawning on me. I eventually built a Starbase to keep popping them.
Pre-alpha units seem useless, I never got any milage out of them before I had the alphas.
War is fun. I had a nice one with Halis where I missle-spammed his Starbase to death (I had a good stock from my own Starbases).
It was way too easy to tech. I was researching Astral Ascension when other civs were still working on Industrialization. This may have something to do with the fact that the AI sucks at managing its systems, but I was number one in everything the entire time, and that shouldn't happen.
Kanji's music doesn't seem to fit him. It should be switched with Lukas's which fits him better. Speaking of which, Lukas Von Roether looks very Asian for a German guy. And Kanji looks very white for a Japanese guy. Maybe they should switch the leaderheads too, although Kanji's hat fits the 'Planned State' better. Korovin's leaderhead is very well done, I had no idea it was Roosevelt till I saw the little 'hand wave'.
Speaking of switch, Paradise and Halis have the same logo. Can anyone say 'bug'?
You don't get any benefit from adopting a state Value, except diplomacy. I learned this too late, it cost me from being able to try the diplo victory, 'cause everyone hated me because my Value was different. Running no state Value is the best choice by far.
Also, I LOVE STARBASES!
