Hey, I just finished a game on emperor with Sweden, and I have to say, I'm pretty impressed. When I first saw them, I wrote them off as a fairly terrible civ, given their UA. However, after playing as them, I've come to like them quite a bit. They are a very powerful late game civ, and if played correctly make a diplomatic victory fairly easy.

Social Policies:
Tradition
Liberty
Piety
Patronage
Commerce
Freedom

Tradition, with a cultural>science focus, gave me insane border growth. 5-6 tile growth out of my capitol. I lead the demographics chart in land throughout most of the game, only getting passed up when my friend, as mongolia, started his campaign against the world. The UA is actually useful, if you build up a large population (allowing specialist focus), and make a lot of declarations of friendship. In all, I was quite pleased with the civ.

So, what are your thoughts on Sweden? I'm still letting the game digest a bit; I finished last night.

I thought similar of Sweden but like you I was very impressed after I finished them. They are good large and small. Could be played defensivly or offensivly they are allround good civ.

If you're going for a diplo win take tradition patronage rationalism, (if you got extras freedom, or order, science from factories) quicker UN, sp Sweden never has a problem with allies due to lack of faith, liberty not required with standardish traditiony start :), commerce not needed cos of UA.

What I like most about Sweden is that, when warmongering, you have a good use for all those great generals you will be generating. Normally, every GG after the first (which goes with your army) is just doing nothing in my games, while with Sweden, they can be gifted to city states for 90 influence.
