Thread start date

Something I would find useful in these forums is a way to see, in the thread list, WHEN a thread was started. As it is now, you only see WHO started it.

It's hard to remember what all threads are about, and sometimes the thread name is unclear, or similar to another one, and you wonder: "Have I read this?".

Maybe there are new posts in it, and if you can see that the thread was started, say, yesterday, you'll know that you probably haven't read any of it yet.

But if you can see that it was started, say, 6 weeks ago, you know that you can jump to the first new post immediately, or not read it at all.

Maybe the start date can be displayed together with the name of the user who started it.

How's that for an improvement?

Nice idea, maybe a little difficult to implement though. :hmm:

Why not, but if you really want to see the date you're looknig for, just check the first post :p

Yeah, but that means that I have to open EACH thread, and that's what I'm trying to avoid!!

what's so important in knowing the thread creation's date if you're not interested in it ? :p

It's not about knowing the thread creation date itself. It's only a way to sort out the newer ones from the older, to save time, not reading anything in a thread I've read before, and found to be not interesting enough.

Many times, when browsing the forum topics, I've found myself thinking: "Hmm, I wonder if I've already read that thread. I wish I could see when it was created, without actually opening it." This is why I make this suggestion.

As I clearly describe in the first post, it's sometimes hard to know what a thread is really about, and seeing that it has been in the forum for some time means that I've probably checked it out before. I may decide not to read it again, even if there are new posts, and the topic appears to be interesting.

The threads I'm NOT interested in, are, of course, discarded immediately.

I'm sorry if you can't see how this would be useful, but some of us may actually like this feature. :yeah:

In which case how about a Topic Visited Flag?

My 2 cents

Yes, that would also work, but I think the file stored for each user would increase in size, recording weather the user has visited each existing thread or not.

How about a "New thread since last visit" flag, like the one where there are new posts since last visit?

I also think this idea would be kind of useful. I think GameFAQs has this feature.

I've wanted this too. Also, kutos (is that the word?) for having me on your screenshot ;)

I dunno. It might be somewhat useful.. but if it starts to clutter things up, I'm definately against it. It pretty much depends on how it'll look.

It's kudos, IIRC.

I usually just scan the post dates in a particular thread that interests me. If I've posted in it before, then I start reading after where I posted, or the first post or two after the last time I was at that forum.

Still, this does seem like a good idea.
