Thread to discuss your (completed) tournament games!

Oh yeah, now I remember from the Chessmaster thread. Thanks!\

Hey, is there any way to get it to work w/o the CD?

I won against DrewHoo.

Congratulations. Here I was looking at lines like 10. Qxe5 Bxe5 11. Bxf6 Bxf6 12. Nd5 Bxb2 13. Rb1 Be5 14. Ne7+ Kh8 15. Nxc8 Rfxc8 16. Rxb7 and then I come back and find that 10. Be3?? was played. Crazy stuff.

Double post.

I saw that he was moving toward checkmate, but for some strange reason I half-forgot about it and thought that he had one more set up move to go. It was a pretty bizarre blunder. I've always made a lot of careless mistakes in chess.

Yeah, it was kind of a short game - we'd both just lost a knight and a pawn, so there were plenty of pieces still on the board. Just missed it I guess, which I do all the time. Not so bad being on the giving end instead of the receiving end for a change. ;)

Truronian - dutchfire 0 - 1 :)

I didn't know these opening moves at all, so I mostly went by the opening browser, and common sense.
10. Qc2: Bh7 looks threatening in the long run, but really isn't that bad because of Kh8, with no more threat what so ever. Bc2 and then Qd3 might have been better.
11. ... Bxf3 was one of my better moves strategically. gxf3 is your only option, and it makes the position of your king very weak, especially since f2 can't move forward, so the Queen is unable to assist in the defence.
13. Bxf6 Why? My knight was in a pretty bad position there, and this allowed me to open the offence on your king.
20. e4 gives me access to f4
21. Bxe4, fxe4 would have been more interesting, (21. ... Kxh7 22. e5 +), but I don't know if it would have been good.
21. Qf4, I don't think you had a single option left here.

25. Rg2 Rc8
26. Qf1 Rc1
27. Qxc1 Qxc1 +
And the game is virtually lost.

Bh7 looks threatening in the long run, but really isn't that bad because of Kh8, with no more threat what so ever. Bc2 and then Qd3 might have been better.

Bh7 doesn't look threatning to me at all. All it does is placing a piece in danger of being trapped at any moment requiring constant protection not to be taken immediately. If it's not lost in a few moves it will still take valuable time to save it. All that for a check that doesn't accomplish anything. Not a good idea.

Placing the Bishop on c2 and Queen on c3 is indeed a better plan although it seems it cannot be done in that particular position. (Bb3, Rc8, Qd3, Qc7 and if Rc1 black gets 2 Rooks for the Queen and a good position.)

21. Bxe4, fxe4 would have been more interesting, (21. ... Kxh7 22. e5 +), but I don't know if it would have been good.

It's pretty much all bad for white by now. The computer prefer fxe4 with about a third of a pawns margin.

21. Qf4, I don't think you had a single option left here.

Well, you might try running with Kg2, not that it makes much of a difference.

25. Rg2 Rc8 26. Qf1 Rc1 27. Qxc1 Qxc1 + And the game is virtually lost.

After those moves the game is DEAD lost. A slightly better defense would be 25. Rg2 Rc8 26. Rg3 with at least a theoretical chance for black to go wrong. Something like h5, Qb5, h4, Qh5+ and it's a game again. not that you would expect black to allow such a thing at this time control of course.
