Tie Interceptor - 2/9/2007

everytime I comment, I end up being wrong...but

If Im not mistaken, Tie FIGHTERS are white like this unit, but Tie INTERCEPTOR (or the 1 you see in the movie) are much darker grey...Tie BOMBERS are a blue/grey color...like this:

The animation on this unit is great tho...very fluid...

The color is correct.

They are all the same color as the TIE Fighter. Its just different lighting that makes it vary. Some artists render them in a darker grey but in the movie they are all white/light grey and under the right light they have a blue tint. The Imperial Navy has a standard for painting all fighters in the TIE series the same color.

Well, the movie replicas are not white...nor were the Kenner toys from the 80s...I cant find a single pic of a WHITE tie interceptor...they are in fact different colors...in fact there is a Red one too (interceptor)...but no White interceptor...the pilots are even colored like the Tie vehicle they pilot: Fighter pilots are white/gray, bomber pilots are grey/black...

and 2 ships side by side are in the same lighting, yet the Fighter appears white, while Darth's Interceptor appears gray...

The models used in the movie are light gray, when you shine a bright light on them they look white and if they are in the shade they look like a darker gray. The TIE Interceptor, TIE Bomber and TIE Fighter all have the same paint job in the movie and just look different shades because of the various lighting, lasers and explosions that are near them. The exception is a new hope which uses older model TIE Fighters.

According to the EU all TIE series fighters have the same standard paint job. Special units such as your EU red royal guard fighter don't have to adhere to those standards. Your dark gray Interceptor picture from Star Wars Glaxies isn't indicating a new color its just the artists rendition which has very little light. The TIE fighter is rendered in the same shade of gray as the interceptor by Star Wars Galaxies.

Its the same color as the TIE Fighters. Just different lighting which looks white where it isn't shaded.

TIE Fighters in the movie:

Then the TIE Bomber with the same lighting. The blue tint is not because of a different paint job, its because of the blue explosion beneath it.

Up close the TIE Bomber looks white because of the bright lighting. This is the same model used in the movie.

Great unit, but I just have to nitpick ;) all imperial fighter fire green lasers and rebel fighter red lasers.

Well, Green Lasers don't like you either.
