Time for Sox fans to worry yet?

Last time I checked, the Red Sox are 5.5 games behind the Yankees. As the season progresses, I grow continually more worried. If the Sox don't do well in the Yankees/Sox series this week, I think we might have a serious problem. Usually I don't start worrying until late August, but I'm jittery this season for some reason. Maybe it has something to do with our incredible season last year, and I think we used up all our luck for the next few seasons. Any thoughts?

Sox have a good team, but beaten last night by Yanks. Yanks are HOT, Sox
are NOT. Baseball tonight stated they need at least split, or time might be
to worry. Boston's defense has really hurt them lately  :( .

I'm a Phillies fan from the 70's, they can't beat the Marlins  .

Boston's defense and our pitching staff are what keeps us going. For the life of me, I find it hard to believe that we have the best hitter in the AL East (Manny) yet the rest of the offense can't come up with the numbers to support him.

Manny is an awesome hitter  . That was some catch he made the
other night :scan: and was robbed of another HR by Abreu :D . Maybe
Nomar will catch fire and the rest will pick it up a notch ;) .

I hope so. Maybe this is the season for the Sox, since we usually suck in September, but we're sucking in June this year. Fingers are crossed.

I am going to see the Red Sox play Atlanta on Saturday and Sunday :D . Usually I am a Braves fan, but because we suck so badly this year and because I want the Sox to beat the Yankees in the AL East I think I'll root for the Sox.... Bah, I'll just wear my Braves shirt and my Sox hat and root for both! :goodjob:

They lost another to THEM last night. The announcers said the Sox had
given up the MOST unearned runs in the AL  - They need some D.
They really need to win the next one or the word may be PANIC :help: :shakehead .

lol, Red Sox fans are always worrying ;)

Astros fans are the ones that should be worrying, a terrific team and we still might not make the postseason.

I would worry if I was a bosox fan. If they dont pull off a trade to grab a good glove, its over. They are prob already too far back to get the div crown, but the wild card is still within reach

the team is running out of time to win tho...before those big contracts run out

What a heartbreaker for the Sox last night  . Really good game to
watch :scan: . I thought they had it for sure on Manny's HR  .

My daughter (13yrs) is a huge Astros fan, Bagwell is her favorite player and
has been since she was about 5. Beltran is some player :king: , he has been
putting on a show  .

 Holy crap! The Braves killed the Sox last night (10-4)!!! I was at that game :D . Lucky for me, I'm a Braves fan. No worries though, Bosox are my favorite team in the AL because I hate the Yankees so much :)

What the hell. Those goddamn Mets beat the Yankees again. Bastards.

While I live in Massachusetts, I hate the Sox because I simply cannot stand all the Sox fans at school. We have announcements on the status of the Sox playoffs. It's insane. Although like a good Bostonian I of course hate the Yankees for robbing the Celtics of the title for most championships.

They've only made the playoffs two consecutive years once since the Babe left town, in '98 and '99. Since they are a team of history and destiny, I think there's no way they're in again this year. Not with Ortiz pulling a Buckner in NY again.:)

Let's face it Sox fans, if the curse were lifted you wouldn't know what to talk about.:)

Of course being a life long Mets and Yankees fan, I love watching the despair. I'm sadistic like that, but I guess we all are. :D

At least you have the Pats, and next year to hope for.

It looks as if the panic is starting  . The paper yesterday said they were looking for starting pitching, that Pedro & Curt were not enough  .

No we need a better third starter, now I hear Nomar goes to LA for Odalis Perez and a few prospects :S
And last night was very convincing, and even thoguh it's a longshot, we still have a shot at the division, if the Yanks keep losing. Anyway, Texas is due to falter, and hopefully we can take wildcard.
We need better defense, but good news is Nomar and Mueller are looking good, maybe they can carry us a little ways. Lowe looks like a wreck, I used to say Lowe's on the mound, good to get a win, now it's Loser Lowe's on the mound, better get 20 runs if we have a chance to win. Imagine if we didn't get Schilling?

Nomar isn't going anywhere if we don't get something real in return. There is talk of a possible three way deal for The Big Unit, but I don't see it happening.

Lowe is too much of a headcase to be playing without a contract. He thinks every game he has to pitch the game of his life. He's just too emotional to be able to bounce back from giving up a couple runs.

I think the gap is down to six and a half right now, and we've still got 9 or 10 games left vs the Yanks.

I think we finally got a spark from someone coming off the DL - Mueller. Who woulda guessed it?

If there is a god of everything good and holy in this world, Rocket will stay down there in Houston, and not come to either Boston (I don't want to root for him) or NY (I don't want to play against him).

Lowe must go.

God, this season is killing me. The unearned runs! Everytime I see one coming I scream "Oh the humanity!" and fall to my knees. I swear, the Sox have beat themselves more then they've been beaten by other teams this season.

Yeah, those have been killing me too. :(

It's funny, but true. Last year, every game, every play just had a certain feeling to it. This year, not so much. I dare not say more....
