Time for Sox fans to worry yet?

For a Bostonian, you don't seem to understand how things work around here.

We'll get to the WS against the Cubs, and lose because Nomar gets three different game winning hits.

It'll be the Curse of the Nomino.

Yeah but who ever said we could get to the Series? And btw, Nomar will probably get 4, since he's so healthy now, what happened to his "injury"

BoSox fans:
Why did management trade away Nomar? I mean, he's been the face of your franchise for such a long time, along with Pedro.

And no I can't ridicule your team, for my team has tanked it in it seems (Phils).

Well here's the answer I have come to, and I listen to the talk shows far too much.

1. He was becoming a distraction in the clubhouse
2. It had become clear that there was no chance to resign him after the season
3. He had repeatedly turned down fairly generous offers from the Sox
4. He told us that his injury would require more days off, possibly including a stint on the DL if he was to be healthy for the postseason.
5. His offensive numbers were still good, but his defense was worse than ever, and he was no gold glover to begin with.

@General Brown - The only reason I think we'll get to the series is so the team can find a new way to rip our hearts out - by losing to Nomar.

Well do you guys think the Nomar trade was a positive or negative, it seems kind of dissapointing we couldn't get Clement, but Mient and Cabrera I think will do ok, at least defensively. And btw, Cabrera makes 6 Million, a little overpaid if you ask me, anyone know any other soon to be free agent shortstops?

I think that, given the situation, they got what they could for him.

Mientkiewicz (sp?) has already made some great plays at first and has saved some errors, and probably some runs.

Cabrera does seem to be a bit pricey for what you get from him, but there's not going to be much available at short this offseason.

i guess I view it as pretty positive, although I would have liked some pitching.

Tanked is a PERFECT word for what they doing

At 9.5 games back of the Yankees, the Sox are going to raise their game now. Or their going to have to battle the Angels for the wild card. If the Angels ever get healthy, the Sox could be in for some trouble.

The Angels seem to be gaining MO  .

The Sox have won 7 of the last 10. The Yankees are playing at the same pace. Incredibly, .700 baseball will probably not be good enough to climb out of their hole in the AL East.

Forget the division, we need the Rangers, Angels, Indians, and A's to lose :(

Things are getting really tight  :scan: .

There is talk of Red Sox getting Kent from Astros  . He is on my
fantasy team-- so, so yr :( .

The Astros tried to put Clemens on waivers so the Yanks could get em supposedely. And now that division lead ain't so far away lol.

They are only 5 1/2 out after recent surge! ;) Getting VERY interesting. :scan:

I go away for 3 weeks, intentionally not looking at the standings, and things are looking much better! (6 1/2 now though)

We really need either the Yankees to slip up or for us to play 8.782 baseball. (Not just for the division)

Best case scenario, we overtake the Yanks, and then the Angels get healthy. :D

Lol, I think the Yankees will struggle, but more of the focus should be on the Wildcard, we're tied for lead, and I think Texas is due to falter, like the Royals last year. We have to play at Texas at Ananheim, and Oakland comes in, this decides the season, and then we have to win when they beat on each other. Remember last year down 4 games to the Mariners, they came in and we swept them. We need to do it again.

You don't want to count on winning a wild card. Win the division. Then the Yankees can worry about winning the wild card.

All we need to focus on is winning. However that gets us in to the postseason is fine with me. Personally, I'd rather see them get the division, but that's not worth a whole lot, and I don't think the Evil Empire will falter enough.

We do have our fate in our own hands now. We still have a series with Oakland, Anaheim, and Texas, and two with the Yanks. Will be interesting for sure....

All we need to focus on is winning
Really?

We are fated to reach the playoffs, but whether we face the Yankees (who will make it too, it's fate) is different. We might lose against the west coast team, or, most probably, win the Division Series, have the Yankees lose theirs to the Twins, and then lose to the Twins in game 7 due to Meintkiewicz having a Mookie Wilson* like ball go through his legs. :crazyeye:

*I could have used a different player to descibe it, but remember, I'm a Mets fan too. :D (EDIT:  )
