The timeline was, I thought, a very nice little feature. However, I feel there is something missing. A historical timeline without all the wars mentioned on it? Even though you don't earn any era score, when someone declares a war on you should also be put into the timeline. When you capture or lose a city should also be on the timeline. Both of those might be game changing events in your game and I feel they belong in a timeline.

If we were to go that far to fix such a little issue, we might as well add another thing to the timeline. GS added landmark names on the map (which was also pretty nice). Say, if the program could search out groups of 4 or 5 or larger groups of adjacent units that are on opposite sides of a war, and add that to the timeline under the name of the battle/siege of [Insert name of closest landmark or city], that would be great. The only hard part might be programming the thing to realize when a battle is over and when it isn't.

Anyhow, those were just my thoughts about the timeline. I pass them onto whomever wants to discuss this subject or mod such a project… or maybe if firaxis decided to take it up themselves, that'd be great.

The declaration of war is fine.

However, I oppose adding Historic moments every time you conquer a city. Instead, they should add a Historic moment each time you sign a peace treaty. If cities and gold are ceded in a peace deal, these are mentioned in the Historic moment.

Otherwise the timeline will get cluttered. Captured Capitals are the only ones which should get their Historic Moment.

As for the second idea, there's a much easier and more reliable way to program it. Instead of searching for units and then trying to figure out what's going on, it would just check for units killed/damaged by the belligerent Civs within a 2/3 tile radius for the last 5 turns. If the amount of units killed/damaged meets a certain threshold, then it constitutes a battle and it receives a generic battle name according to the closest map feature. E.g. A city, a natural wonder, a river, etc.

E.g. The second Cree-Polish battle of Hudson Bay.

PS. But I don't care much about this, tbh. It would be a nice addition, but not crucial.
